  • Publication number: 20070071903
Abstract: A method of applying a multi-component coating composition to a substrate is disclosed. The coating composition comprises a polymeric component containing reactive functional groups and a hardener component comprising a curing agent having coreactive functional groups. The composition is applied with a spray applicator and the rheological profile of the polymeric component is adjusted by adding to the polymeric component one or more materials having a lower molecular weight than the polymeric component and which contain functional groups reactive with the curing agent such that the polymeric component and the hardener component are delivered to a mixing chamber in the spray gun at a predetermined volume ratio over a varied range of temperatures and shear rates.

  • Publication number: 20060000488
Abstract: The invention provides a method for the at least partial removal of one or more polymeric coating layers from a coated substrate having at least one coated surface. The method includes generating at least one reactive species in an ionized gas stream discharged at atmospheric pressure; and placing the coated surface in the ionized gas stream. The at least one reactive species reacts with the one or more polymeric coating layers such that one or more coating layers is at least partially removed from the coated surface of the substrate at atmospheric pressure.

  • Publication number: 20050287354
Abstract: Articles are disclosed wherein a color-imparting non-hiding coating layer is deposited on a surface thereof. The coating layer is deposited from a protective coating composition comprising color-imparting particles having a maximum haze of about 10% and a film-forming resin. Methods of using the coatings, and the substrates coated therewith, are also disclosed.

  • Publication number: 20050228090
Abstract: Compositions are disclosed. The compositions include a binder, a transparent or semi-transparent colorant having an average particle diameter of greater than 150 nanometers; and at least one member comprising a scattering pigment dispersed in a matrix. Substrates coated with such compositions and methods of coating substrates with such compositions are also disclosed.

  • Publication number: 20050196626
Abstract: Describes a photochromic article, e.g., an ophthalmic photochromic article, such as a plastic lens, in which the article includes (1) a rigid substrate, such as a transparent thermoset or thermoplastic polymeric substrate, (2) a photochromic polymeric coating appended to, at least a portion of at least one surface of the substrate, the photochromic polymeric coating containing a photochromic amount of at least one photochromic material, e.g., spirooxazine, naphthopyran and/or fulgide, and (3) a layer chosen from a second organic polymeric coating or an abrasion resistant coating that is superposed on said photochromic polymeric coating. Describes incorporating at least one polysiloxane surface active agent within the photochromic polymeric coating in amounts sufficient to inhibit migration of the photochromic material, e.g., into said layer superposed on said photochromic polymeric coating.
