  • Publication number: 20170108929
Abstract: A full motion capture and haptic feedback suite which allows users to touch and feel virtual objects used with a KINECT or made into a hybrid state using 9-axis sensors to move freely outside the view of the KINECT. The suite uses a combined software and hardware platform for immersive virtual reality, capable of tracking a user's movements, translating them into a virtual space, and providing haptic feedback when the user comes into contact with a virtual object. Essentially, this allows a user to “feel” the object, adding another level of sensation on top of the visual feedback provided by a television or a headset. The system uses a KINECT and an integrated sensor network to detect the user's position in a space without the traditional limits of a consumer motion capture system. It then sends touch feedback to a custom-designed feedback suit based on virtual interactions.

  • Patent number: 9597532
Abstract: A wearable breathing apparatus includes a thermal capacitor that a user inhales and exhales through. Inhaled air is cooled as it passes through the thermal capacitor, and exhaled air cools the material of the thermal capacitor for the next breathing cycle. The breathing apparatus may be used by a firefighter, for example, as a lightweight apparatus to enable the firefighter to safely breathe dangerously heated air, for example while in a fire shelter, that may otherwise cause injury to the user. The breathing apparatus advantageously does not require external power for cooling. The thermal capacitor may also be used as a part of a rebreather that uses a scrubber that removes carbon dioxide from exhaled air, for rebreathing. Further, the thermal capacitor may be used for other purposes, such as in recirculation of building air.

  • Patent number: 9539540
Abstract: A rotary moving bed and process for separating a carbon dioxide from a gas stream is disclosed. The rotary moving bed can have a rotational assembly rotating on a vertical axis, and a plurality of sorbent cells positioned horizontally to the axis of rotation that fills a vertical space in the moving bed, where the sorbent cells adsorb the carbon dioxide by concentration swing adsorption and adsorptive displacement. The sorbent can be regenerated and the carbon dioxide recaptured by desorbing the carbon dioxide from the sorbent using concentration swing adsorption and desorptive displacement with steam. The gas flows in the system flow in a direction horizontal to the axis of rotation and in a direction opposite the rotational movement of the sorbent cells.

  • Patent number: 9527029
Abstract: A circulating moving bed and process for separating a carbon dioxide from a gas stream is disclosed. The circulating moving bed can include an adsorption reactor and a desorption reactor, and a sorbent that moves through the two reactors. The sorbent can enter the adsorptive reactor and one end and move to an exit point distal to its entry point, while a CO2 feed stream can enter near the distal point and move countercurrently through the sorbent to exit at a position near the entry point of the sorbent. The sorbent can adsorb the CO2 by concentration swing adsorption and adsorptive displacement. The sorbent can then transfer to a regeneration reactor and can move countercurrently against a flow of steam through the regeneration reactor. The sorbent can be regenerated and the carbon dioxide recaptured by desorbing the carbon dioxide from the sorbent using concentration swing desorption and desorptive displacement with steam.

  • Patent number: 9523419
Abstract: A method for manufacturing a torque converter shell is provided to induce favorable residual stress in a direction of a loading condition to improve durability during cycle pressurization. The method includes inducing favorable residual stress on a front cover, an impeller shell, or both the front cover and the impeller shell to improve the durability of these components. The induced residual stresses reduce the stress experienced by these components during operation. The front cover and impeller shell are welded together to form the torque converter shell.

  • Patent number: 9504955
Abstract: A process for separating a carbon dioxide from a gas stream is disclosed. The process can include passing the gas stream over a sorbent that adsorbs the carbon dioxide by concentration swing adsorption and adsorptive displacement. The sorbent can be regenerated and the carbon dioxide recaptured by desorbing the carbon dioxide from the sorbent using concentration swing adsorption and desorptive displacement. A carbon dioxide separation system is also disclosed. Neither the system nor the process rely on temperature swing or pressure swing adsorption.

  • Patent number: 9399884
Abstract: A door closer assembly is provided, including a valve regulating an amount of hydraulic fluid that flows through the valve. The amount of hydraulic fluid flowing through the valve controls a force generated by the door closer assembly on a door. A first sensor measures an angular position of the door, and a second sensor measures an angular position of the valve. The angular position of the valve determines the amount of hydraulic fluid flowing through the valve. A controller controls the adjustment of the valve based on the angular position of the door and the angular position of the valve.

  • Publication number: 20150274279
Abstract: The Control Input Detection System determines if a crewmember in the Pilot (aft) crew station and/or crewmember in the Co-Pilot Gunner (fore) crew station have/has their hands on the appropriate control surface. A current is routed to each crew station via an Input Analyzer. The current returns a control voltage to the voltmeter. When gloves (or hands) make contact with the control surface, the resistance of the circuit is altered, returning a voltage to the respective control's voltmeter different from the control voltage. The IA will monitor the voltmeters' returns to determine at least one pilot has his hand(s) on the controls. If the control voltage is returned from all four voltmeters, the IA would send a signal a System Processor, for a Display Processor to send an audio tone to the Pilot and CPG's helmets, and an advisory to be displayed on the Enhanced Up-Front Display.
