  • Patent number: 11671499
Abstract: Systems and methods of an internet of things device connecting to a remote server. The internet of things device connects to a web target. The web target sends a response to the internet of things device indicating whether a change to the one or more settings of the internet of things device has been received at a cloud server. If a change has occurred, the internet of things device connects to a secure cloud server to update the settings on the internet of things device.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: September 13, 2019
Date of Patent: June 6, 2023
    Assignee: Spectrum Brands, Inc.
Inventors: James Creighton Hart, Michael Walker
  • Patent number: 11616654
Abstract: Methods and systems for configuring a security device, such as an electronic lock, are disclosed. In particular, the present disclosure describes methods and systems for provisioning a lock with a certificate such that any change to the lock, or changes to lock-server communication characteristics, can be detected and (optionally) prevented. As such, security of such devices is improved.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: April 24, 2019
Date of Patent: March 28, 2023
    Assignee: Spectrum Brands, Inc.
    Inventor: James Creighton Hart
  • Patent number: 11610442
Abstract: Methods and systems for validating intent to actuate an electronic lock are provided, using comparative gesture processing. One method includes obtaining motion signals representative of physical motion of the mobile device detected by a motion sensor of the mobile device and at an electronic lock. The method includes performing a similarity correlation between the first motion signals and the second motion signals, and, based on the similarity correlation determining that the first motion signals and second motion signals are correlated. Based on the correlation and authentication, the wireless electronic lockset is actuated.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: July 9, 2021
Date of Patent: March 21, 2023
    Assignee: Spectrum Brands, Inc.
Inventors: Thuan Duy Nguyen, James Creighton Hart

  • Publication number: 20220051498
Abstract: Methods and systems for authenticating an Internet of Things device, such as an electronic lock, are disclosed. One method includes generating a first challenge at a server; transmitting the first challenge to the Internet of Things device; receiving a first signed certificate from the Internet of Things device, the first signed certificate being the first random number challenge signed with a private key associated with the internet of things device; and verifying the first signed certificate with the first challenge and a public key associated with the Internet of Things device. Mutual authentication of the server from the Internet of Things device is also provided.
