  • Patent number: 6721721
Abstract: An apparatus, program product and method integrate virus checking functionality into a computer database search environment to assist in protecting a user computer from contracting a computer virus when accessing search results. The generation of a display representation of a result set generated in response to a search request may be based at least in part upon virus status information associated with at least a portion of a plurality of result records identified in the generated result set. Moreover, an apparatus, program product, and method configure a first computer to receive virus status information generated by a plurality of computers, with such received virus status information stored in a virus database that is accessible by the first computer.

  • Patent number: 6583734
Abstract: A method and system for vehicle hazard warning and safety integrated with an onboard navigational system for providing a current geographical location of the vehicle to a base station, receiving an event signal from the vehicle at the base station, while the vehicle is proximate to the current geographic location associating the geographic location with the event signal to determine that the vehicle is distressed, and transmitting hazard information from the base station to the vehicle in response to such association. The association may be based upon directional information which is provided by the vehicle. A control signal is transmitted to the vehicle and the hazard lights of the vehicle are automatically activated in response to receipt of that control signal. Navigational assistance can also be presented to the vehicle.

  • Publication number: 20030103415
Abstract: A method for resolving meeting conflicts for an electronic calendar application is disclosed. After receiving a request for setting a first meeting schedule for a first meeting, an electronic calendar application sets a first meeting schedule and a first meeting priority number associated with the first meeting. In response to a request to set a second meeting schedule for a second meeting, and the second meeting schedule conflicts with the first meeting schedule, the electronic calendar application determines whether a second meeting priority number associated with the second meeting is higher than the first meeting priority number associated with the first meeting. If the second meeting priority number is determined to be higher than the first meeting priority number, then the electronic calendar application overrides the first meeting schedule with the second meeting schedule.

  • Publication number: 20030009460
Abstract: The electronic document composer stored in the memory and executable by the processor is utilized for drafting a first electronic document. A sender composes the first electronic document including at least a normal element, a conditional element, and a link element utilizing the electronic message composer. The sender can associate the conditional element with the link element, thus hiding the conditional element from view. The first electronic document is viewed utilizing the electronic document viewer. As the recipient invokes display of a remotely stored second electronic document by selecting an associated link element, the conditional element related to the associated link element will then become visible.

  • Publication number: 20020143454
Abstract: A method and system for controlling an automatic transmission is disclosed. The method and system include obtaining positioning data using a global positioning satellite (GPS) and monitoring the automatic transmission to obtain transmission data. The method and system also include learning whether performance of the automatic transmission can be improved utilizing the positioning data and the transmission data. Moreover, the method and system include adjusting a shift threshold for the positioning data for the automatic transmission if it is determined that the performance of the automatic transmission can be improved.

  • Publication number: 20020119752
Abstract: A digital radio stores advertisements for substitution during a broadcast for a bumpable advertisement within the broadcast. Upon detecting a bumpable advertisement within a predetermined broadcast period, the digital radio checks for higher priority stored advertisements—such as advertisements which were broadcast when the digital radio was not tuned to the station being monitored—and substitutes advertisements according to a priority scheme. Prioritization includes whether the advertisement has been played to the listener at least once during the broadcast period, and may extend to fee-based priority enhancements and tiebreakers or to selection based upon geographic location and/or direction of travel of a vehicle in which the digital radio is located.

  • Patent number: 6425127
Abstract: A method and system for controlling visual access by a user to selected broadcast commercial advertisements. A video stream which includes multiple commercial advertisements is broadcast to multiple receivers, each coupled to a video display at a user's location. Unique identifications of each commercial advertisement and an initiation/termination delimiter signal are also embedded within the video stream. Selected commercial advertisements are then stored within memory within each receiver in response to an indication that a particular video stream containing those commercial advertisements is not currently displayed at a user's location. Thereafter, these stored commercial advertisements are substituted for an alternate commercial advertisement within the video stream at a subsequent time in response to an indication that the particular video stream is once again displayed at a user's location, ensuring that the selected commercial advertisements are viewed by a user.

  • Patent number: 6415117
Abstract: Control over the output of duplex or double-sided copying is facilitated by indicator pages identifying an original page which should be copied to the front side of a new copy page, even if the back side of a previous copy page must be left blank in order to do so. Special separator pages containing detectable indicia such as a bar code may be inserted within single-side originals immediately prior to a page which should be printed on the front side of a duplex copy page to serve as the indicator page. Pages with unique, detectable content such as white space followed by large-print chapter or section headings may be employed as the indicator page, identifying the respective page as a page which should be printed on the front side of a new duplex copy page.
