  • Patent number: 7594760
Abstract: A bearing cup having a ring and a shoulder extending radially inward from an inner surface of the ring. At least one tang extends axially outward from a first side of the ring. At least one tab extends axially outward from a second side of the ring opposite the first side. And, at least one slot is formed in the second side. The bearing cup prevents the outer race of a conventional rolling element bearing from rotating while allowing the bearing to move in an axial direction. The assembly is designed for use with either a single rolling element bearing or a set of two bearing assemblies or any number of closely spaced bearings. The advantage of the device is that it eliminates spinning of the bearing assembly outer race. The device also prevents frictional sliding between a bearing assembly outer race and a preload spring. Frictional sliding imposed on a bearing outer race can induce galling and subsequently lead to part failure.

  • Patent number: 6991235
Abstract: A gas-buffered brush seal assembly and associated method are provided. The seal assembly includes at least one brush seal that defines an interface with a rotatable member. The seal assembly is configured to deliver a gas to the interface so that the gas at least partially prevents the flow of a fluid therethrough. In addition, the seal assembly can be adjustable so that the flow of the fluid is controlled by adjusting the flow rate of the gas through the seal assembly.

  • Patent number: 6976679
Abstract: An inter-fluid brush seal assembly and associated method are provided. The seal assembly defines a gas passage for supplying gas to interfaces with a rotatable member. At least one of the interfaces is defined by a brush seal, and the flow of the gas through the interfaces can prevent the flow of fluid through the assembly, thereby sealing the assembly and preventing the fluid from passing therethrough. The gas and the fluid can be drained from the assembly through one or more drains.

  • Patent number: 6316737
Abstract: In general, in one aspect, the invention features a connection between a through-hole in a circuit board and a contact region on a component. The contact region has a surface bearing a depression. A continuous solder column has one end of that forms a solder joint with an inner wall of the through-hole and the other end of that forms a solder joint with the contact region.
