  • Patent number: 11974412
Abstract: Provided are systems and methods for managing a processing load of a processing module and thermal energy produced by the processing load. In one example, a method includes identifying a hot water profile that contains usage information of hot water from a hot water tank that serves as a heat sink for the thermal energy. A determination may be made as to whether it is economically desirable to increase or decrease the processing load based on factors such as an economic value generated by the processing load, a cost of energy needed to support the processing load, and an economic value of the thermal energy transferred to the hot water tank based on the hot water profile. The processing load may be dynamically modulated by a local or remote controller in response to the economic desirability of increasing or decreasing the processing load as well as other possible parameters.

  • Patent number: 9908096
Abstract: An energy conversion system includes a water-containing vessel with a transparent sidewall. Energized carbon rods are fed into the vessel such that the carbon rods are immersed in the water. The carbon rods are juxtaposed sufficiently that electrical arcing occurs between them, causing decomposition of some water molecules into constituent hydrogen and oxygen gas. Photon emissions resulting from the arcing are collected by photovoltaic cells placed around the sidewall of the vessel. The hydrogen gas is cooled by passing it through a water reservoir which also provides a source for water in the vessel. The cooled hydrogen gas may be used to fuel an internal combustion engine. Byproduct heat from the arcing reaction may be utilized in a Stirling engine or radiated from the system. As the carbon rods become depleted during arcing, additional rods are fed through conductive sleeves into the vessel by linear actuators.

  • Patent number: 4376583
Abstract: A system for laser scanning a relatively movable reflective surface element and inspecting that surface by monitoring the reflected energy in both light and dark channel receivers. Flaws occurring on the surface of the element, depending on the types of flaws, cause various frequency components to be present in the reflected energy and affect the amount of energy reflected to the light and dark channel receivers. Circuitry is included to detect and classify the various types of flaws as they are scanned, to compute the condition of the inspected element and to grade that inspected element as being in an acceptable state or in one of a plurality of unacceptable states. The described reflective surface element is a silicon wafer of the type used as the base substrate in fabricating integrated circuits and other electronic components.
