  • Patent number: 8571844
Abstract: Embodiments of the present invention are directed to determining the spatial extent, aggressiveness, and other characteristics of various types of tumors, including glioma tumors that occur in brain tissue. Various embodiments of the present invention use parameterized computational models to characterize tumor growth and employ medical imaging technologies to generate images and other types of data from which values of parameters of the computational models are derived. Having obtained the parameters for a particular tumor, the extent of the tumor is estimated, with high accuracy, and other characteristics of the tumor are derived from the parameterized computational models.

  • Publication number: 20110250331
Abstract: A thermal food cover comprises a first layer comprising a fabric material and a second layer coupled with the first layer and comprising an insulative material. The thermal food cover further comprises a third layer coupled with the first layer, and comprising a food-grade, thermally resistant, material. In another aspect, a method for retaining thermal properties of a food item, comprises placing the food item on a surface. The method further comprises covering the food item with a thermal food cover to retain thermal properties of the food item, the food cover comprising a first layer comprising a fabric material, a second layer coupled with the first layer and comprising an insulative material, and a third layer coupled with the first layer, and comprising a food-grade, thermally resistant, material.

  • Patent number: 7244874
Abstract: The present invention provides transgenic, non-human animals that include a transgene that encodes a fatty acid desaturase, e.g., stearoyl-CoA desaturase, and methods for producing such animals. The invention further provides an expression cassette that includes a coding region for a desaturase such as stearoyl-CoA desaturase, operably linked to a heterologous, tissue-specific animal cell promoter. The invention further provides methods of producing a food product, such as milk, meat, or eggs, using a subject transgenic non-human animal, as well as food products harvested from a subject transgenic non-human animal.

  • Patent number: 7199281
Abstract: The present invention provides methods of producing transgenic livestock animals. The methods generally involve first introducing a nucleoprotein made up of nucleic acid and a recombinase into a totipotent or pluripotent cell to produce a recombinant totipotent or pluripotent cell and then growing the recombinant totipotent or pluripotent cell to produce the transgenic livestock animal. The invention further provides kits for use in generating transgenic non-human animals of the invention.

  • Publication number: 20040231010
Abstract: The present invention provides transgenic ungulates that include a transgene that encodes lysozyme, and further has an attenuated or non-functional &bgr;-lactoglobulin allele. The invention further provides methods for producing such animals. The invention further provides methods of producing a food product, such as milk, or a milk product, using a subject transgenic ungulate, as well as food products harvested from a subject transgenic ungulate.

  • Patent number: 4448221
Abstract: Spraying apparatus for cleaning filter plates embodies a support frame which is mounted for movement beneath the filter plates and is adapted to align with each space formed between adjacent filter plates to be cleaned. A spraying unit is mounted for pivotal movement on the support frame selectively to a lowered position beneath the filter plates and to a raised position extending upwardly into the space between adjacent filter plates. A spray dispenser carried by the spraying unit moves within the space to apply spray to the adjacent vertical surfaces of the filter plates being cleaned.

  • Patent number: 4368125
Abstract: Apparatus for extracting liquid from a suspension includes a horizontally mounted rotatable filter media covered concentrator drum with an inner drum rotatable about a horizontal axis within the concentrator drum and defining a suspension transition chamber therebetween. The drums are mounted in a common frame and are rotated in opposite directions with the suspension being introduced at one end of the transition chamber. Angularly disposed vanes on the outer surface of the inner drum convey the suspension through the transition chamber and turn and lift the suspension to a maximum elevation below the top of the transition chamber with the suspension falling back before reaching the top of the transition chamber. The filter media is cleaned as it moves at an elevation above the suspension.
