  • Patent number: 4423842
Abstract: An electromagnetic fuel injector is provided with a one piece armature/valve member that is guided at its armature end by a guide washer and at its ball end by a guide means in the injection nozzle assembly of the injector, a spring applying a clamping force on these guide provision members to fix them within the nozzle body of the nozzle assembly.

  • Patent number: 4423843
Abstract: An electromagnetic fuel injector has an axially adjustable nozzle assembly which provides an annular valve seat cooperating with a movable armature/valve member having at one end thereof a semi-spherical valve element and having at its opposite end a ball guide socket therein. A semispherical guide and stop member is positioned to be slidably received in the ball guide socket to guide the armature/valve member during reciprocation thereof and it is also used to provide a stop for the armature/valve member in the direction of its travel toward an associate pole piece so as to provide a fixed minimum air gap between the opposed working faces of these elements.

  • Patent number: 4423841
Abstract: An electromagnetic fuel injector includes an armature stop member, providing a flat surface with the lower body portion being of semi-spherical configuration, which is pivotably positioned in a conforming ball socket provided in the free end of an armature so that the flat surface extends outboard of the armature whereby it can abut against an associate pole piece to provide for a fixed minimum air gap between the pole piece and armature. In the event of any slight skewness between the axis of the pole piece and the reciprocating axis of the armature, the armature stop member will pivot, as necessary, to effect parallelism of the flat surface thereof with the flat working surface of the pole piece.

  • Patent number: 4405912
Abstract: A solenoid assembly, as for use in an electromagnetic fuel injector or similar valve assembly, and a method of making the same wherein a cylindrical pole piece is positioned in and fixed at one end to an apertured, cup-shaped solenoid housing so as to initially support and center a bobbin and solenoid coil assembly which is then secured in fluid tight relationship to the solenoid housing by an encircling encapsulant member molded in place.

  • Patent number: 4231525
Abstract: An electromagnetic fuel injector has the armature of the solenoid assembly thereof journaled for axial movement on a fixed, small diameter guide pin of non-magnetic material. The armature is provided with an axial guide bore to slidably receive the guide pin and preselected surfaces of the armature including at least the internal wall defining the guide bore being of wear resistant material.

  • Patent number: 4218021
Abstract: An electromagnetic fuel injector for use in a spark ignition internal combustion engine and, in particular, for use in a low pressure, throttle body fuel injection system for such an engine. The fuel injector includes an electromagnet actuated valve having a semi-spherical seating surface thereon for cooperation with an annular valve seat at one end of a nozzle assembly for controlling the injection flow of fuel from the injector and a flat surface for abutment against the end of the armature of an electromagnet. This valve is biased toward a closed position in seating engagement against the valve seat by a spring associated with the armature and is biased toward an open position relative to the valve seat by an opposed spring upon energization of the electromagnet. The electromagnet structure includes a small diameter axial extending small diameter guide pin slidably received in a guide bore of the armature for reducing sliding friction of the armature.

  • Patent number: 4149496
Abstract: In a throttle body injection apparatus of the type having a throttle body housing including a throttle body portion with spaced apart valve controlled throttle bores therein and a fuel body operatively connected to the throttle body portion, the fuel body is of substantially open, diamond like configuration and has a pair of socket cavities therein adjacent opposite corners thereof with electromagnetic fuel injectors positioned therein to discharge fuel from spray tip ends of the injectors into the throttle bores upstream of the valves therein, each electromagnetic fuel injector forming with a socket cavity an annular fuel chamber in flow communication with opposed inlet and outlet ports of the injector, the fuel body having a support port at one apex thereof connectable to a source of low pressure fuel and a drain port at the opposite apex thereof connectable to a fuel drain conduit, the fuel body having inlet passages therein connecting the supply port to the fuel chambers, and drain passages therein connec
