  • Patent number: 10036294
Abstract: An aftertreatment module includes a catalytic brick having upstream and downstream flanges sized to extend over potential leak flow paths between bricks. Additionally, an aftertreatment module has an array of similarly flanged bricks to reduce leakage through all interfaces between adjacent bricks. A frame for holding the array of bricks includes flow modulators to restrict leakage through an interface between the frame and at least one side surface defined by the array of bricks.

    Filed: May 28, 2015
Date of Patent: July 31, 2018
    Assignee: Caterpillar Inc.

  • Publication number: 20140208724
Abstract: An aftertreatment system of an engine is disclosed. The aftertreatment system includes a housing. The aftertreatment system also includes a Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) catalyst provided within the housing. The aftertreatment system further includes an exhaust duct associated with the SCR catalyst. The aftertreatment system includes a sampling flute provided within the exhaust duct. The aftertreatment system also includes a NOx sensor at least partly enclosed by a first end of the sampling flute. The aftertreatment system further includes a spring member. The spring member is joined to the sampling flute and the exhaust duct.

  • Publication number: 20090184229
Abstract: An isolation mounting apparatus is disclosed that includes a first resilient mounting pad, a second resilient mounting pad, a substantially rigid mounting plate, and a second substantially rigid mounting plate. The first resilient mounting pad is positioned between the mounting plate and a support component to limit the vibration transmitted from the support component to another component mounted onto the isolation mounting apparatus, and vice versa.

  • Patent number: 7520257
Abstract: A cylinder head of an engine is disclosed, the cylinder head including an upper deck, a lower deck, and a sidewall extending between the upper deck and the lower deck. The lower deck defines a block-engaging portion and a combustion chamber flame deck. The combustion chamber flame deck is spaced apart from the block-engaging portion. An engine is also disclosed that includes a cylinder block having a cylinder bore, and a piston slidably positioned within the cylinder bore. The engine also includes a cylinder head having a lower deck connected to the cylinder block, the lower deck defining a block-engaging portion and a combustion chamber flame deck. The combustion chamber flame deck is spaced apart from the block-engaging portion by a recess.

  • Patent number: 7428893
Abstract: An internal combustion engine is provided that includes a high pressure feed line, and a plurality of fuel injectors fluidly connected to the high pressure feed line, each being operable to inject a fuel into the engine. The engine further includes an electronically controlled flow disabler disposed between the high pressure feed line and each one of the fuel injectors. Each of the flow disablers includes an actuator operable to move a valve member toward a closed position at which the flow disabler blocks a fuel flow to the respective fuel injector.

  • Patent number: 6378309
Abstract: A single air inlet for a pair of turbochargers has a duct portion with a circular inlet, a converging bifurcated portion having a pair of circular outlets, which are in fluid communication with inlet portions of compressor portions of the turbochargers and evenly distribute the incoming air to the compressor inlet portions, a baffle disposed in the bifurcated portion separating the outlet portions to prevent pulses generated in one compressor portion from affecting the other compressor portion and an elbow portion that registers with the circular inlet.
