Publication number: 20220410358Abstract: A fastening tool for driving a fastener into a workpiece is described herein. The fastening tool includes a contact trip, a magnet, and a magnetometer. The contact trip is disposed at a first end of the fastening tool and is configured to move toward a second end of the fastening tool opposite of the first end when the contact trip engages the workpiece. The magnet is configured to generate a magnetic field. The magnet is coupled to the contact trip such that movement of the contact trip causes the magnet to move. The magnetometer is configured to detect a change in the magnetic field generated by the magnet when the magnet moves relative to the magnetometer and, based on the detected change in the magnetic field, to generate a signal indicating when the contact trip engages the workpiece.Type: ApplicationFiled: May 16, 2022Publication date: December 29, 2022Inventors: James D. Publication number: 20220347826Abstract: A flywheel (34) can be mounted on a flywheel carriage (88) that can include a pair of axles (90). The flywheel carriage can be movable along two pairs of guide slots (42) of the tool frame between a disengaged position in which the flywheel is spaced from the fastener driver (26), and an engaged position in which the flywheel is engaged with the fastener driver to drive the fastener driver along a driver axis. A pair of pinch rollers (50) can be coupled to the tool frame and can be engageable with a pinch roller side of the driver profile that is opposite the flywheel side. A plane aligned with an axis of rotation of the flywheel and oriented perpendicular to the driver axis can be located between an axis of rotation of each of the pair of pinch rollers throughout engagement of the flywheel with the fastener driver along the longitudinal flywheel engagement length.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 22, 2020Publication date: November 3, 2022Applicant: BLACK & DECKER INC.Inventors: James D. Patent number: 9993936Abstract: A chop saw includes a base assembly and a saw assembly pivotally attached to the base assembly. The base assembly has a workpiece-supporting plane. The saw assembly has a blade and a motor driving the blade. A hinged connection between the base assembly and a saw assembly allows a user to rotate the saw assembly from a position where the plane of the blade extends through the workpiece-supporting plane to a position where the plane of the blade does not extend through the workpiece-supporting plane. In such position, the plane of blade may be substantially parallel to the workpiece-supporting plane. A switch or sensor may detect when the saw assembly is in the pivoted position so that the motor cannot be activated in such position.Type: GrantFiled: February 25, 2016Date of Patent: June 12, 2018Assignee: Black & Decker Inc.Inventors: Warren A.
