Floating toner port interface with a replaceable unit of an electrophotographic image forming device
Patent number: 9599931Abstract: An electrophotographic image forming device includes a toner channel having an outlet port positioned on a housing that includes a flexible member that allows the housing and the outlet port to move within the image forming device. A shutter is positioned on the housing and is movable between a closed position and an open position. A replaceable unit includes a toner reservoir and an inlet port. The inlet port is formed on an extension from the replaceable unit. Upon insertion of the replaceable unit into the image forming device, the extension is closely and matably received by the housing and the outlet port aligns with the inlet port permitting toner transfer from the toner channel to the replaceable unit. Insertion of the replaceable unit into the image forming device causes the shutter to open and removal of the replaceable unit from the image forming device causes the shutter to close.Type: GrantFiled: June 30, 2015Date of Patent: March 21, 2017Assignee: Lexmark International, Inc.Inventors: James Daniel Anderson, Jr., Charles Alan Bast, Brian Scott Carpenter -
Patent number: 9533302Abstract: A fluid cartridge has a bottle to retain a volume of fluid. An ejector chip resides in fluid communication with the bottle and causes ejection of fluid upon activation of fluid ejectors. Control logic coordinates ejector activation with dose control logic and temperature control circuitry. The dose control logic pre-specifies an amount of fluid to be ejected and prevents further ejection upon reaching the amount. Meanwhile, the temperature control circuit inhibits any ejection until a temperature of the fluid is within a predefined acceptable range. Bottle modularity, fluid dispense-areas and group-control of the ejectors facilitate certain designs.Type: GrantFiled: March 9, 2012Date of Patent: January 3, 2017Assignee: Lexmark International, Inc.Inventors: John Glenn Edelen, James Daniel Anderson, Jr., Steven W. Patent number: 9519261Abstract: A replaceable unit for an electrophotographic image forming device according to one example embodiment includes an elongated body extending along a lengthwise dimension between a front and a rear of the body. The body has a reservoir for holding toner. The body includes an extension downward from the bottom of the body near the rear of the body. The extension has a downward chute formed therein in fluid communication with the reservoir. A rear face of the extension is unobstructed to receive a bias force in a forward direction toward the front of the body along the lengthwise dimension. An outlet port on the bottom of the extension is in fluid communication with the chute for transferring toner out of the reservoir. The replaceable unit may include a positioning bump on the bottom of the body at a rearmost position on the bottom of the body.Type: GrantFiled: January 5, 2016Date of Patent: December 13, 2016Assignee: Lexmark International, Inc.Inventors: Michael Craig Leemhuis, James Daniel Anderson, Jr., Charles Alan Bast

Patent number: 9477177Abstract: A toner cartridge according to one example embodiment includes a body having a reservoir for storing toner. The body has an outlet port in fluid communication with the reservoir for exiting toner from the reservoir. A shutter positioned at the outlet port is slidable between a closed position blocking the outlet port and an open position unblocking the outlet port. A lock is sandwiched between a portion of the shutter that faces the outlet port and a portion of the body that the shutter slides along. The lock is movable between a locked position blocking the shutter from moving from the closed position to the open position and an unlocked position permitting the shutter to move from the closed position to the open position.Type: GrantFiled: September 2, 2014Date of Patent: October 25, 2016Assignee: Lexmark International, Inc.Inventors: Michael Craig Leemhuis, James Daniel Anderson, Jr.
