An embodiment describes a method which provides an interactive service, such as a website or mobile application, to a user. As the user interacts with the service which is related to a literary work, they navigate along a storyline within the service which corresponds to the storyline within the literary work and the user's position along that storyline is stored. Within the service, the user generates elements of user generated content and each element of user generated content which is created is stored with a position reference specifying a position of the user when that element was created. User generated content which was generated by one or more other users of the service is displayed to the user; however content which was generated by any user at a position beyond the user's stored position along the storyline is not displayed.
