  • Patent number: 8731156
Abstract: Methods, systems, and products are disclosed for operating an electronically activated mechanism. In an exemplary embodiment, the method comprises receiving, via a first communications network, a first electronic communication directed to remotely activating the mechanism. The first electronic communication may include at least one of a telephone call, a telephone call containing data, and a data message. The method further comprises determining whether a party from whom the first electronic communication is received is authorized to remotely activate the mechanism. When it is determined that the party from whom the first electronic communication is received is authorized to remotely activate the electronically activated mechanism, a second electronic communication is provided via a second communications network. The second electronic communication is directed to activating the electronically activated mechanism. The first and second communications networks may each include a wireless network.

  • Publication number: 20110301055
Abstract: Methods for determining a prognosis in multiple myeloma are disclosed, and in particular to methods that are capable of identifying patients with a poor prognosis and/or for determining the likelihood of a patient responding to a particular treatment. The methods identify myeloma samples having homozygous deletions in cell death genes, with dysregulated expression of 97 cell death genes forming a cell death expression signature, which is associated with poor prognosis in multiple myeloma. In a preferred aspect, three gene pairs, were found to provide a prognostic a “six gene signature” based on BUB1B and HDAC3; CDC2 and FIS1; and RAD21 and ITM2B (high expressors and low expressors respectively).

  • Publication number: 20070297587
Abstract: Methods, systems, and computer program products for caller identification messaging are disclosed. A calling party uses a Caller ID Messaging Device that supplants the incoming calling line identification (ICLID) signal with a Caller ID Messaging Signal and transmits the Caller ID Messaging Signal to a destination communications address. An alternate embodiment provides that the calling party may use a conventional telephone to access a communications network, activate Caller ID Messaging Services, compose or retrieve a stored Caller ID Message of the Caller ID Messaging Signal, and transmit the Caller ID Messaging Signal to the destination communications address. • Publication number: 20070071188
Abstract: A device and method for controlling the use of a communication device make a determination as to whether a communication may proceed. The determination may be based upon a time reference, such as a total amount of time that the communication may proceed or an interval of time when communication is not permitted. The determination may alternatively be based upon whether the user is authorized by entry of a personal identification number prior to placing the communication. Various other considerations may be accounted for including whether the communication is to a communication address and/or whether the communication is of a particular type. If the communication may not proceed, then the circuit between a communication device and the communication network is obstructed to terminate the communication following an audio or visual warning.

  • Publication number: 20050129221
Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices are disclosed for alerting a subscriber of network-associated information upon receipt of a telephone call. One of the systems includes a base station wirelessly transmitting to an accessory device. The base station receives the telephone call via a communications network. The base station includes a transmitter transmitting only network-associated information to the accessory device. The network-associated information represents signaling within the communications network, and the network-associated information lies outside a voice-portion of the telephone call. The accessory device includes a receiver and a display, with the receiver receiving the network-associated information and the display presenting the network-associated information. When the telephone call is received, the accessory device presents the network-associated information to the subscriber, thus informing the subscriber of the network-associated information associated with the telephone call.

  • Patent number: 6885738
Abstract: Methods and systems are disclosed for activating an electronic lock in an intelligent switched telecommunications network having a plurality of Advanced Intelligent Network (AIN) components. A call is received from a device communicating with the telecommunications network. The call is from a calling party to a called party. Processing of the call within the telecommunications network is suspended. A database is queried for a telephone number of the called party. The database stores telephone numbers of called parties subscribing to a lock service provided by a telecommunications service provider. The lock service allows a user to remotely activate an electronic lock using the telecommunications network. If the query is successful, processing of the call within the telecommunications network is resumed. The call is used to activate the electronic lock.
