    Abstract: The present invention relates to a novel glucose transporter protein isolated from a breast cancer cell line, and to the gene encoding the protein. Detection of expression of the protein is useful as a diagnostic and staging marker in cancer. Control of expression of the protein is useful in the therapy of cancer. Furthermore, up-regulation of the protein is useful to overcome insulin resistance in non-insulin dependent diabetes mellitus.
