  • Publication number: 20110049015
Abstract: A system and method for removing and managing water in liquid hydrocarbons is disclosed. The system and method utilize a water absorbent filter, such as one that utilizes super absorbent polymers, cellulose, cotton or other suitable material to remove water from the system that is either present as free water or as dissolved moisture within the liquid hydrocarbon. The super absorbent polymer filter can be regenerated through the introduction of a dried liquid hydrocarbon, through the use of an air drying system, or a combination of both.

  • Publication number: 20110006529
Abstract: Disclosed herein are embodiments of combined cycle power plants having elevated exhaust pressure from a steam turbine. The elevated exhaust pressure from the steam turbine may result in an elevated condensate pressure and temperature. A cooling system removes sensible heat from the condensate. The elevated condensate temperature results in a greater temperature difference between the condensate and the working medium in the cooling system. The amount of heat that is dissipated by the cooling system is proportionate to the heat transfer surface and the temperature difference between the condensate and the working medium. As a result of the greater temperature difference, a smaller cooling system configured to operate with a higher temperature condensate may be utilized in place of a larger cooling system configured to operate with lower temperature condensate. By reducing the size of the cooling system, the overall size of the combined cycle power plant may be reduced.

  • Patent number: 7628608
Abstract: A submersible gas burner includes a pilot burner, a closed gas reservoir, and a first and second main burners. The pilot burner has a pilot burner tube with a closed upper end, an open lower end and a pilot gas inlet adjacent the upper end. The pilot burner provides a downwardly directed pilot flame. The closed gas reservoir has an upper end, a lower end, and a main gas inlet above the lower end. The main burners are coupled to the gas reservoir with upper ends adjacent the pilot burner and opposing lower ends coupled to the gas reservoir. The lower end of the first main burner is further from the lower end of the gas reservoir than the main gas inlet while the lower end of the second main burner is closer to the lower end of the gas reservoir than the main gas inlet.

  • Publication number: 20090295303
Abstract: A method of controlling the brightness of a fluorescent lamp from a low frequency alternating current mains supply is described in which the lamp has an associated ballast providing a higher frequency power supply. The ballast includes a microprocessor which controls the frequency of the power supplied to the lamp by the ballast. This frequency is varied in accordance with the desires of the operator by actuating a cycle of variation of the frequency supplied to the lamp and ending the cycle when the desired brightness is reached. The cycle of variation of the frequency may be initiated by operation of a control switch located in series with the mains supply such as an on/off switch; the cycle of variation of the frequency is initiated by momentary operation of the control switch. In an alternative embodiment the control switch is a dimmer switch which suppresses part of each cycle of the mains supply and the variation of the frequency is initiated by the control switch.

  • Patent number: 7623540
Abstract: The present invention provides a method for allocating channels in a wireless local area network (WLAN) among a plurality of clients. This method involves first assigning at least one client of the plurality of clients to a channel of a set of active channels. Next, for each client the access time is determined based on an access time factor. Assigning individual clients to channels further involves determining available channel capacity of the set of active channels and the desired channel consumption of the multiple clients. When the available channel capacity is equal to or greater than the desired channel consumption, multiple clients may be assigned to multiple channels.

  • Publication number: 20090065436
Abstract: The web of the invention can comprise a super absorbent layer that can act as an moisture sensitive fuel shut-off valve, absorbent, adsorbant or reactant. The web of the invention can comprise a super absorbent fabric or layer made of a superabsorbent particle or fiber. The web can comprise a nanofiber layer having dispersed within the nanofiber layer a super absorbent particulate and optionally a second particulate material that can act as an absorbent, adsorbant or reactant. Fluid, gas or liquid, that flows through or by the assemblies of the invention can have any gas, liquid or solid material dispersed or dissolved in the fluid interact with the super absorbent particulate. If needed these materials can also react with, be absorbed by, or adsorbed onto, the active particulate within the nanofiber layer.

  • Patent number: PP20038
Abstract: A new and distinct variety of Fig tree denominated ‘Sequoia’ is described. The new ‘Sequoia’ fig variety is a high quality, medium to large size, yellow-green skinned fig of the “common” type, developed for use in the fresh market fig industry. The ‘Sequoia’ tree is of medium vigor and size and is a regular and productive bearer, developing both a Breba and second crop in most years. The ‘Sequoia’ has a tight ostiole that substantially restricts the entry of most insects into the interior of the fig fruit. In comparison with the ‘Tena’ parent cultivar, the ‘Sequoia’ is substantially larger in size and has a more prolific Breba crop. The larger size of the ‘Sequoia’ allows it be harvested later into the fall when the decreased size of other cultivars such as ‘Tena’ precludes their use in the fresh market.
