Abstract: Systems and methods for emulating local database connections for custom tools (e.g., macros, integrations, plugins, and the like) designed to integrate with collaboration platforms. An emulated connection can be supported by a set of protocol bridges. A first protocol bridge is instantiated local to a custom tool and a second protocol bridge is instantiated in a collaboration system backend. The two protocol bridges level shift transport layer communications supporting a database connection between the custom tool and a remote relational database of the collaboration system backend to application layer communications that traverse secure networks and that can be authenticated and monitored by collaboration system authentication systems.
