Publication number: 20100141425Abstract: One embodiment involves a usage code system comprising an electrical device powered by a battery only if the battery contains a characteristic usage code. Another embodiment involves a presence confirmation device that repeatedly sends wireless query signals. The electrical device receives the query signals and responds by sending a wireless confirmation signal to the presence confirmation device. The presence confirmation generates an alert if it does not receive the confirmation signal after a certain time period after sending a query signal to the electrical device. Yet another embodiment involves a motion sensor that measures motion data from which translation of an electrical device is determined. If a net translation of the device is greater than or equal to a defined threshold, an alert system generates an alert or increases a polling rate at which new motion data is periodically received from the motion sensor.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 29, 2009Publication date: June 10, 2010Applicant: GREAT STUFF, INC.Inventors: JAMES B. Patent number: 6044129Abstract: An x-ray tube includes an anode, a cathode, and an electrode disposed in an evacuated envelope. The electrode is positioned such that the electrode is remote from an area in immediate proximity to the envelope. An electric field defined by electrode is of sufficient strength such that arcing preferentially occurs between the electrode and the anode as opposed to occurring between the cathode and anode. The electrode is further situated such that metal sputtered from the electrode substantially falls in a define region on the anode and serves as an active getter for pumping gas from the envelope. The electrode is composed of an active metal which, upon being passively heated by the anode, also acts as a getter material to aid in pumping gas from the envelope.Type: GrantFiled: November 21, 1997Date of Patent: March 28, 2000Assignee: Picker International, Inc.Inventors: Lester D. Miller, James E. Burke, Donald F. Decou, Jr.

Patent number: 5581591Abstract: An x-ray tube includes an anode (A) and an envelope (C). A cathode assembly (B) which is supported in the envelope on a bearing (32) emits a beam of electrons which strike the anode forming a focal spot. The anode rotates (D) relative to the cathode such that focal spot follows a generally annular path along a beveled track (14). If the axis of the anode and the cathode assembly are screwed or offset, the focal spot path is not circular and wobbles. An adjustment assembly (60) adjusts the relative positions of the anode, the cathode and the envelope to adjust the anode and cathode assembly axes. The adjustment assembly also includes one or more electrodes (102, 108) which adjust the position of the focal spot. An angular position encoder (106) identifies an angular orientation of the anode. A control circuit (110) applies an electrostatic potential to the electrodes to move the focal spot such that it stays on a constant plane of the leveled anode surface.Type: GrantFiled: November 28, 1994Date of Patent: December 3, 1996Assignee: Picker International, Inc.Inventors: James E. Burke, Lester Miller, Salvatore Perno, Norman E. Wandke
