  • Patent number: 10318385
Abstract: An approach is provided in which an information handling system retrieves a snapshot of a first service in response to determining that the first service has failed. The snapshot was captured at a point in time prior to the failure of the first service. The information handling system retrieves a log corresponding to the first service that includes a log entry of a message sent between the first service and a second service that was sent subsequent to the capturing of the snapshot. In turn, the information handling system restores the first service using the snapshot and the message.

  • Publication number: 20190163447
Abstract: A computer program is monitored as it executes. A code portion in the computer program is identified that will be improved from being deployed to a hardware accelerator. In a first implementation, a hardware accelerator is dynamically generated, and the identified code portion is replaced with a call to the hardware accelerator. In a second implementation, a catalog of previously-generated accelerators is maintained, and when a previously-generated accelerator can be used, a hardware accelerator is dynamically generated in a programmable device using the previously-generated accelerator image specified in the catalog, and the identified code portion of the computer program is replaced with a call to the hardware accelerator. When the catalog of previously-generated accelerators does not include a needed accelerator, the needed accelerator image is dynamically generated and deployed, and the identified code portion of the computer program is replaced with a call to the hardware accelerator.

  • Patent number: 10305756
Abstract: Performance thresholds are defined for operators in a flow graph for a streaming application. A streams manager deploys the flow graph to one or more virtual machines (VMs). The performance of each portion of the flow graph on each VM is monitored. A VM is selected. When the performance of the portion of the flow graph in the selected VM does not satisfy the defined performance threshold(s), a determination is made regarding whether the portion of the flow graph is underperforming or overperforming. When the portion of the flow graph is underperforming, the portion of the flow graph is split into multiple portions that are implemented on multiple VMs. When the portion of the flow graph is overperforming, a determination is made of whether a neighbor VM is also overperforming. When a neighbor VM is also overperforming, the two VMs may be coalesced into a single VM.

  • Publication number: 20190155639
Abstract: Methods, computer program products, and systems are presented. A high availability system includes a high availability set of a primary node processing incoming computational tasks and two or more backup nodes in a queue. The incoming computational tasks for the high availability set is managed according to various policies. For example, based on detecting an impending failure of the primary due to a lack of resources allocated for the primary node, one of the backup node that has the resources lacking from the primary node and that is the least likely to be used for processing the incoming computational tasks is selected as a lender node, according to a borrowing policy, and the resources of the lender node is allocated to the primary for further processing of the incoming computational tasks.

  • Patent number: 10275337
Abstract: A method for processing distributed breakpoints when debugging a distributed application includes establishing a breakpoint in source code of a distributed computer program and executing the distributed computer program. Thereafter, an encountering of the breakpoint is detected in one of the processes, and execution of the one of the processes halted. However, halting execution of any other of the processes is delayed for a delay period during which a list both is generated of others of the processes in which the breakpoint is encountered and also is sorted in accordance with prioritization criteria. Finally, the sorted list is presented after the lapse of the delay period, individual ones of the processes selected in the list, and execution of the selected individual ones of the processes in the sorted list halted while halting of execution of non-selected ones of the processes in the sorted list is bypassed.

  • Patent number: 10261829
Abstract: A sequence of tuples, each having one or more attributes, is received at one of one or more processing elements operating on one or more processors. Each processing element may have one or more stream operators. A first stream operator may be identified as one that only processes an instance of a first attribute in a currently received tuple when a difference between an instance of the first attribute in a previously received tuple and the instance of the first attribute in the currently received tuple is outside of a difference threshold. A second stream operator may generate a difference attribute from a first instance of the first attribute in a first one of the received tuples and a second instance of the first attribute in a second one of the received tuples. The difference attribute may be transmitted from the second stream operator to the first stream operator.
