  • Sound wave absorbing apparatus for air cooled engine

    Abstract: A sound wave absorbing air intake baffle is provided for reducing the level of sound reaching an operator on a vehicle having an air cooled engine with an upwardly opening air intake passage in the hood. The baffle includes first and second chambers carrying sound absorbing material and a sound wave deflecting structure spanning the air intake opening for deflecting sound waves into the chambers. To permit cooling air to be drawn through the passage around the deflecting structure and into the engine compartment, an air deflecting structure is positioned above the sound wave deflecting structure.
