A single sheet of roofing material is cut to a shape having end portions, tapered portions, and a center portion. The sheet is folded back on itself three times in the center portion to provide a multilayered, folded ridge shingle unit. The ridge shingle units are then applied overlappingly to the ridge or hip of a structure.
