  • Publication number: 20080028817
Abstract: A cupping press includes at least one blanking die that operates between a rest position and a forming position through the action of a first servomotor. At least one forming punch operates between a retracted position and an extended position. The forming punch in the extended position is at least partially disposed in a forming cavity defined in a lower die of the press. The operation of the cupping press is controlled by a control circuit that is electrically connected to the first servomotor. The control circuit operates to generate a synchronization pulse based on a parameter, and functions to coordinate the operation of the first servomotor with the synchronization pulse.

  • Patent number: 6606934
Abstract: Presented is a gas operated, semi-automatic rifle having a shortened barrel. For actuating a receiver to provide the semi-automatic feature, the rifle has a gas system including a gas cylinder assembly attached to the barrel at a second angular position relative to the barrel. For linking the gas cylinder assembly with the receiver, an operating rod is provided having a charging arm engaging the receiver and a distal end located at a first angular position relative to the barrel. The gas cylinder assembly and the distal end are hence coextensive to each other, eliminating the length of the barrel otherwise necessary to position the gas cylinder assembly and the distal end in a linear relationship. To provide for interaction between the gas cylinder assembly and the operating rod, an abutment block is attached to the operating rod and positioned at the second angular location.

  • Patent number: 6230538
Abstract: A method and apparatus for continuously forming cases from blanks using a rotary turret. Blanks are deposited near dies located on the turret. Each blank is centered on the rotary turret using an associated centering mechanism so that the blank is centered over the die. A punch aligned with the die is drives toward an extended position to push the blank through the die, thereby forming a case. The punch and centering mechanism retract as an ejector extends to remove the case from the die. A redraw sleeve coaxial with the punch strips the case from the punch to deposit the punch on the extended ejector. Subsequent turrets may be connected through transfer wheels to the first turret for performing redrawing operations until a case with the desired dimensions is obtained.

  • Patent number: 5323527
Abstract: A method and apparatus is provided for use in the fabrication of an electrical chemical cell having a spiral wound core. An anode plate and a first separator sheet are Juxtaposed in an adjacent relationship and restrained against relative lengthwise displacement. A cathode plate is Juxtaposed with a second separator sheet in an adjacent relationship and also restrained against relative lengthwise displacement. Portions of the first and second separator sheets are overlapped and restrained against relative movement while the restrained overlapping end portions are rotated Continuously about an axis so as to wind the plates and separator sheets into a coiled core which can be inserted into an electrochemical cell casing. The apparatus includes a vacuum holding member for holding the anode plate and first separator sheet together, and includes a vacuum holding member for holding the cathode place and second separator sheet together.

  • Patent number: 5121827
Abstract: An apparatus is disclosed suitable for presenting a container at a labeling station where the container is oriented before, during or after the time a label is affixed to the container. The apparatus includes a turntable that is rotatable about a fixed axis. A turret is provided on the turntable for rotation about a turret axis substantially parallel to the fixed axis. The turret is adapted to receive a container. A cam follower carriage is mounted to the turntable for reciprocal movement along the turret axis and is operatively engaged with the turret for rotating the turret when reciprocated. Reciprocal movement is imparted to the carriage by a lower cam.

  • Patent number: 5099569
Abstract: An apparatus and method for fabricating a consolidated assembly of cathode material in a dry cell battery casing having a closed end and an open end are disclosed. The casings are moved in a path to a selected transfer region on a circular locus, into registry with a die assembly, and along an arc of the circular locus in the transfer region at the same angular velocity as the die assembly. Each casing is engaged by a rotating die assembly in which a quantity of fluent cathode material has been deposited in an upwardly open receiving chamber of the lower die assembly. The casing is retained in position on the lower die assembly while a core pin and annular shoulder punch are elevated through the receiving chamber to force the cathode material into the casing and to compact the cathode material into an annular configuration.

  • Patent number: 5085312
Abstract: A machine for picking up and placing parts includes an oscillating dial which carries a shuttle, an intermittently rotatable turntable which carries several angularly spaced fixtures, and vertically reciprocable lift platens which carry angularly spaced transfer or working devices, at least one of the devices being a transfer device having a gripper for holding and releasing parts. A part fed into the shuttle is carried to a transfer station by the shuttle and is picked up by the gripper of the transfer device as the latter moves downwardly through a long stroke and between adjacent fixtures. After the transfer device has been retracted upwardly through a long stroke to clear the fixtures, the turntable is indexed through one step to bring a fixture into underlying relation with the transfer device.
