  • Patent number: 5882753
Abstract: The present invention provides a release coated film, an adhesive tape comprising a release coated film, and processes for preparing the same. The fluoropolymer release layer comprises a graft copolymer of (i) a base polymer containing polymerized units derived from monomers having terminal olefinic double bonds, and (ii) a moiety comprising a fluoroaliphatic group. The film may be coextruded and may subsequently be oriented in at least one direction. Alternately, the release coating can be extrusion coated onto a backing and may be subsequently oriented if the backing is orientable. Adhesives may be coated onto the release coated films either before or after orientation, or they may be coextruded along with the release coating and/or backing.

  • Patent number: 5660922
Abstract: A unified, composite tape structure is provided. The tape comprises two outer pressure-sensitive adhesive layers joined via melt processing. A method of making the tape comprising the use of melt processing is also disclosed. In the method a plurality of layers are melt processed and simultaneously joined to form the unified composite.

  • Patent number: 5336717
Abstract: A fluorochemical graft copolymer comprising: a base polymer comprising polymerized units derived from monomers having terminal olefinic double bonds, having a moiety comprising a fluoroaliphatic group grafted thereto. Also disclosed are processes for preparing such fluorochemical graft copolymers, forming and annealing methods for enhancing the surface activity of such a graft copolymer, polymer blends comprising such a fluorochemical graft copolymer and a matrix polymer that is miscible with the base polymer, and a method for reducing the surface energy of a polymer comprising polymerized units derived from monomers having terminal olefinic double bonds.

  • Patent number: 5110667
Abstract: Polymer blend useful in making release liners, especially for reflective sheeting, comprises:A. a matrix polymer (e.g., a polyolefin);B. a filler such as CaCO.sub.3 ;C. a fluorocarbon, such as a 2-oxazolidinone compound.Typical proportions are: polypropylene 54.5%, CaCO.sub.3 45%, and fluorochemical oxazolidinone 0.5%.Liners made of this composition can be used both in the process of manufacturing reflective sheeting and as release liners on finished product, thus combining process and product liner into one. They can also be used as a slip sheet in bonding reflective sheeting to sign blanks or substrates.
