  • Patent number: 5850190
Abstract: A novel paging system provides a apparatus and method for disseminating traffic condition information to subscribing commuters that is specific to the route or routes traveled by the commuter. An electronic map of the commuter's route is stored in the memory unit of a pager and is displayed, perhaps in segments controlled by the commuter. The location of and other information about actual and potential traffic problems is transmitted to the pager. The pager then displays icons on the displayed map which indicate the location of the problems. The icons may also differ to indicate the type or severity of the problem.

  • Patent number: 5835026
Abstract: A novel paging system provides a apparatus and method for disseminating traffic condition information to subscribing commuters that is specific to the route or routes traveled by the commuter. Commuters provide the paging system service provider with a description of the routes along which they commute. The service provider then compiles traffic condition information and transmits traffic reports to the subscribing commuters. The reports are specific to the route traveled by each commuter.

  • Patent number: 5796394
Abstract: A user interface provides a uniform control scheme among different devices in a personal communications routing system. The system allows devices such as a personal computer, personal information communicator, pager, fax machine and base station to be operated with a standard twelve key telephone keypad controller for the purpose of accessing electronic messages such as e-mail, voice-mail, fax transmissions, etc. Handheld communicators are docked with the devices to provide wireless transmission between a base station and numerous devices in a multi-user environment. The base station receives electronic messages for the users in, e.g., an office and routes the messages to a device as the user instructs. The user is able to perform operations on the messages such as reading, responding, deleting, etc., by using the keypad.

  • Patent number: 5673169
Abstract: A computer system for use on either a horizontal surface or a vertical wall. The system includes a computer having a base. The system further includes a viewing device for displaying information from the computer. The device is rotatably mounted to the computer to enable rotation of the computer and the device relative to each other. The system further includes a keyboard having keys for inputting commands to the computer. The keyboard is rotatably mounted to the computer to enable rotation of the keyboard relative to the computer. Upon placement of the base on the desk top or vertical wall, the device is rotatable to a substantially vertical position suitable for viewing the device. Further, when the base is positioned on the horizontal surface, the keyboard may be rotated to a substantially horizontal orientation. In addition, when the base is positioned on the vertical wall, the keyboard may be rotated to a substantially vertical orientation suitable for accessing the keyboard.

  • Patent number: 5398991
Abstract: A display support apparatus for supporting a generally flat, video display from a passenger seat arm rest is disclosed. The video display is of the type having a screen mounted on a front face, and the arm rest is of the type having a recess for stowing the video display and the display support apparatus. An angled support arm having first and second ends is included. The support arm has a length at least as long as a diameter of the front face of the video display. A first pivot block is used for pivotally attaching the video display to the first end of the support arm. The first pivot block has a first freedom of movement to permit the video display to be rotated with respect to the support arm between a viewing position and a position in which a side of the video display and the support arm are aligned and substantially parallel with each other to form a generally rectangular configuration which is stowable in the arm rest recess.
