    Filed: December 24, 1981
Date of Patent: March 6, 1984
    Assignee: Conoco Inc.
Inventors: Kaye L. Motz, Paul H. Washecheck, Ronald L. Poe, James E. Yates
  • Patent number: 3986844
Abstract: Volatile organic silicon compounds from stripper overheads resulting from Ziegler aluminum alkyl synthesis of primary alcohols are hydrogenated to remove undesirable silicon prior to use as a fuel.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: July 23, 1975
Date of Patent: October 19, 1976
    Assignee: Continental Oil Company
    Inventor: James E. Yates
  • Patent number: 3986995
Abstract: Friable compositions suitable for use as extrusion aids in polymeric extrusion formulations are prepared by a process which comprises mixing a paraffinic hydrocarbon wax, calcium hydroxide and a fatty acid while heating to a temperature of at least 150.degree. C and thereafter cooling to recover a solid, glass-like, friable composition, said paraffinic hydrocarbon wax having a drop melting point of at least 110.degree. F, an oil content of not greater than 50 percent by weight and a needle penetration value (77.degree. F) in the range of 1 mm to 20 mm, and said fatty acid being a C.sub.16 -C.sub.24 aliphatic hydrocarbon monocarboxylic acid or mixtures thereof.

  • Patent number: 3979466
Abstract: A process for producing higher molecular weight alcohols by forming a reaction mixture of at least one lower molecular weight primary or secondary alkanol having a methylene group adjacent the hydroxylated carbon atom, an alkali catalyst and a palladium (II) compound, said palladium compound being mixed with the alkanol prior to dissolution of the alkali catalyst therein, and heating the reaction mixture to effect condensation of the alkanol while simultaneously removing water as it forms.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: September 19, 1974
Date of Patent: September 7, 1976
    Assignee: Continental Oil Company
