  • Patent number: 10479751
Abstract: The present invention provides an apparatus comprising a feed arranged below the middle of the apparatus, a quenching agent inlet arranged above the feed, an outlet arranged below the feed and a draw arranged above the quenching agent inlet, the apparatus having a region provided with one or more packing elements, wherein at least one means which ensures the formation of a liquid layer having a height of at least 1 cm is present between the quenching agent inlet and a packing element present between the quenching agent inlet and feed. The present invention also provides a process for preparing acrylic acid, which includes a step of oxidizing acrolein, wherein the reaction mixture obtained in this oxidation is contacted with water as quenching agent in an inventive apparatus, and a composition obtainable as bottom product in the process according to the invention, comprising acrylic acid and water.

  • Patent number: 7723541
Abstract: A process is provided herein for the high yield production of high purity glacial methacrylic acid (“HPMAA”) that is substantially pure, specifically 99% pure or greater, with water content of 0.05% or less and low levels of other impurities, including HIBA, acrylic acid, MOMPA, methacrolein and others. This improved process comprises providing a crude MAA stream and purifying the crude methacrylic acid stream in a series of successive distillation steps involving two distillation columns. The inventive process is capable producing high purity methacrylic acid product that is especially suitable for the production of specialty MAA polymers.

  • Patent number: 6499412
Abstract: The present invention provides a novel method of controlling the incineration temperature of industrial waste incineration processes such that the incineration emissions products comply with governmental regulations and operating and capital costs are minimal. Modifying the incineration temperature in response to changes in the emission products and the waste streams results in optimal and reliable control of the incineration process and the resultant incineration emissions. Capital and operating costs are reduced significantly as a result.
