  • Patent number: 5203686
Abstract: The valve assembly for a rotary compressor includes an elongated valve member which rests on pads on each side of the valve seat and includes an intermediate sealing section normally sealing against the valve seat. An elongated valve spring biases the sealing section toward engagement with the valve seat. An elongated spring backer sits on one end of the valve spring and the other end of the valve member. One end of each of the valve member, valve spring and spring backer are bolted to the compressor end plate. The other end of the spring backer permits the corresponding end of the valve member to slide along the end plate as the valve member moves between its open and closed positions, while restraining the end of the valve member from moving away from the end plate. A backer support, positioned between the spring backer and the head of the bolt, spreads the clamping force and defines a line about which the valve member and valve spring flex.

  • Patent number: 4960372
Abstract: A rotary compressor includes a cylinder with a cylindrical compression chamber. A cylindrical piston is eccentrically movable within the chamber. A vane slot extends outwardly in the cylinder from and communicates with the chamber. A vane is reciprocatingly mounted in the vane slot for selective protrusion into and retroaction from the chamber to contact the piston. At least one noise reduction slot projects into the cylinder from its outer peripheral wall near the vane slot and extends completely between the ends of the cylinder.

  • Patent number: 4958990
Abstract: A hermetically sealed compressor unit includes a hermetically sealed casing having a side wall with a cylindrical inner surface; an electric motor is positioned within the casing and includes a stator with a cylindrical outer wall having an interfering fit with the casing side wall inner surface; a rotary compressor unit driven by the motor includes a cylinder spaced from the motor and having a cylindrical outer wall welded to the casing side wall at selected positions; and at least one stiffening ring positioned adjacent the cylinder and having a cylindrical outer wall of a larger diameter than said cylinder outer wall and having an interfering fit with the casing side wall inner surface.

  • Patent number: 4934236
Abstract: A sheet slicing mechanism includes a rigid frame member supporting a stepper motor coupled to a drive gear. A rotatably supportable rotary member includes a driven gear coupled to the drive gear and is rotatably supported upon the frame. A blade frame having a generally cylindrical configuration is received within the rotary member and is freely movable in the vertical axis. The blade frame supports a cutting blade and a cutting force weight. The rotary member defines a vertical slot which cooperates with an outwardly extending pin in the blade frame to permit the blade frame to be vertically movable with respect to the rotary member while locked thereto as to rotational motion. A solenoid activated lifting means is supported upon the frame and is operable to raise the blade frame to a noncutting position.

  • Patent number: 4613187
Abstract: Apparatus for a bicycle seat (3) which is comfortable to use, especially for long distance riding, and supports a rider's buttocks without imparting soreness to the crotch, is described. This apparatus comprises a multi-layered cylindrical seat bar (10). This bar is fabricated from a rigid tubular member (11) which is surrounded by a concentric layer of resilient cushioning material (12) and then by a durable covering (14). The seat bar is mounted to the bicycle in a direction substantially transverse to the frame of the bicycle so that the seat bar abuts against and spans the entire width of the rider's buttocks (44) and does not contact the crotch (43) of the rider whenever the rider sits on the bicycle. Various different embodiments of the bicycle seat are disclosed herein.

  • Patent number: 4581583
Abstract: A sample selecting, positioning and retrieving mechanism embodies a carousel having preferably inner and outer concentric rows of cylindrical tubes placed vertically between parallel upper and lower carousel plates. Each vertical tube is equipped with a retaining catch to maintain a sample in its resting position until it is released into a probe situated in a polarizing magnetic field and, conversely, to hold it in the rest position after it has been returned from the probe. A detent mechanism sequentially advances the carousel, one tube at a time, until all of the samples in one of the rows have been processed. A movable shifter plate, on which the carousel is journalled, repositions the carousel such that the other sample row is in alignment with the magnet air column. The mechanism is preferably enabled for movement by pneumatic cylinders and is capable of manual or unattended, programmed operation under computer control.

  • Patent number: 4578683
Abstract: A graphic recording system wherein a plurality of recording elements are carried by a carriage, the carriage being movable in two directions along a path relative to a recording medium. An actuator selectively actuates the recording elements by mechanical engagement for recording on the medium. A rod having a longitudinal axis that is generally parallel to the path is supported, independently of the carriage, for rotation about its axis. An actuator arm is carried by the rod for rotation with the rod while being movable along the rod axis. Detents selectively interlock the actuator and carriage in predetermined relative positions. In a preferred embodiment, the detents are formed of slots within the carriage in predetermined relationships with the recording elements and a key rotatable with the actuator arm into and out of the slots.

  • Patent number: 4158846
Abstract: A graphic recorder convertible for use with multiple width strip chart paper. A rotatable main drum carries sets of sprocket teeth for transporting strip charts along an information transfer head. At least one set of sprocket teeth is formed by separable sprocket sections which are detachably mounted about a recess in the drum for use with a strip chart of one width. Filler inserts are mounted in the recess in place of the separable sprockets for use with a chart of another width. Means is provided for positioning the separable sprocket teeth in precise angular agreement with the other sets of sprocket teeth. Compensator means is provided for ensuring angular agreement of the teeth on one sprocket section with the teeth on the other section.

  • Patent number: 3961335
Abstract: A graphic recorder for use in recording information on a strip chart. The recorder includes a housing having a pair of rollers mounted at opposite ends of an opening across which the strip chart moves. Radially outwardly extending pins are mounted at opposite ends of each of the rollers for registering with and engaging positioning holes formed along the edges of the strip chart. Drive apparatus is provided for reversibly turning the rollers conjointly to move the strip chart along an X-axis. Apparatus is provided for creating a partial vacuum in a chamber within the housing so as to tension the portion of the strip chart suspended between the rollers along a curved path for properly positioning the chart with respect to the pins on the rollers. A recording head is mounted on the cover of the housing for movement along a Y-axis for marking the strip chart.
