Patent number: 8349550Abstract: Devices, systems, and methods reduce levels of pro-inflammatory or anti-inflammatory stimulators or mediators in blood by selective adsorption. The devices, systems, and methods are useful in situations where abnormal levels of or unregulated or excessive interaction among pro-inflammatory or anti-inflammatory stimulators or mediators occur, or during events that do induce or have the potential for inducing abnormal production of pro-inflammatory or anti-inflammatory stimulators or mediators. The devices, systems, and methods serve to prevent, control, reduce, or alleviate the severity of the inflammatory response and disease states that are associated with abnormal levels of or unregulated or excessive interaction among pro-inflammatory or anti-inflammatory stimulators or mediators.Type: GrantFiled: December 2, 2010Date of Patent: January 8, 2013Assignees: Cytosorbents, Inc.Inventors: James A Brady, James F Winchester, Vadim Davankov, Maria Tsvurupa, Ludmila Pavlova, Frank M Norris, Peter J Quartararo, Jr., Jamie A Salsberg

Publication number: 20110210074Abstract: A polymer sorbent clears myoglobin from blood and/or other physiological fluids and solutions. Normal saline or human serum in which myoglobin was dissolved is perfused by a peristaltic pump through a column packed with the polymer sorbent. After a four-hour perfusion, the myoglobin level in normal saline fell from initial levels to virtually undetectable levels. Perfusion through the polymer sorbent was then found to lower concentrations of dissolved myoglobin to a significant degree in samples of human serum after four hours, indicating that the polymer sorbent is an effective sorbent for myoglobin.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 26, 2009Publication date: September 1, 2011Inventors: James F. Winchester, Wei-Tai Young, Vincent J. Capponi
