  • Patent number: 10221672
Abstract: A rotary controlled system includes first and second alternators electrically connected to one another via a DC voltage bus. The alternators may optionally be further mechanically connected to one another via corresponding rotationally coupled components (such as rotationally coupled stators). A first field oriented controller is electrically connected with the first alternator and configured to cause the first alternator to provide a constant DC voltage to the voltage bus. A second field oriented controller is electrically connected with the second alternator and configured to receive electrical power from the voltage bus and cause the second alternator to provide servo angular position control of the rotationally coupled components. The system may be employed in a downhole rotary steerable tool to provide servo angular position control of a roll stabilized housing.

  • Patent number: 10001004
Abstract: A closed loop method for using model predictive control (MPC) to control direction drilling attitude includes receiving a demand attitude and a measured attitude. The received attitudes are processed using a closed loop MPC scheme to obtain an attitude error that may be further processed to obtain a corrective setting for a directional drilling tool. The corrective setting is then applied to alter the direction of drilling. The process of measuring the attitude, processing via the model predictive control scheme, and applying a corrective setting may be repeated continuously while drilling. The disclosed methodology is intended to provide for superior directional control during closed loop directional drilling operations.

  • Publication number: 20150330209
Abstract: A feedback control system for steering a tool along a well-plan. Optimum steering instructions may be generated by a recursive optimization of multiple objectives. These objectives can include accuracy and quality. The quality objective can include the objective of drilling a smooth borehole by minimizing strain energy and torsion. The accuracy objective can include the objective of minimizing the deviation of the borehole trajectory during the real-time drilling process from a predefined well-plan. The trajectory control problem, therefore, can be a multi-objective problem where, in some embodiments, the weightings of the individual objectives can be adjusted along the process.

  • Publication number: 20150317585
Abstract: Methods and systems for generating a well-plan with respect to geological targets. The well plan can be optimized for strain energy and torsion, to generate a smooth borehole. The resultant path can be constrained for curvature which is a design parameter and can produces a path feasible for a directional steering tool to achieve. The method can be constructed as a convex optimization problem, and/or provide a unique solution by interior point methods.

  • Patent number: 7675812
Abstract: A method for attenuating multiple reflections in seismic signals includes coherency filtering the seismic signals. The seismic signals are low pass filtered and high pass filtered seismic signals at a frequency selected such that substantially only multiple reflections exist in the seismic signals above the frequency. A mask is generated having unity value where the high pass filtered signal amplitude exceeds a selected threshold. The mask has unity zero value for all other filtered signals. The mask value is multiplied by the low pass filtered signals. The multiplied signals are added to the high pass filtered signals and a coherency filter is applied to remove remaining primary energy to generate a model of the multiple reflections. The multiple reflection model is subtracted from the coherency filtered seismic signals.

  • Publication number: 20060004605
Abstract: A system and method for a comprehensive interactive graphical representation of a health care facility for managing patient care and health care facility resources. The system comprises an integrated enterprise health care information system including at least one data repository for storing data and at least one graphical user interface for accessing data. The graphical user interface comprises a display area for displaying a graphical representation of all areas of the at least one health care facility. The graphical representation is preferably an interactive map of the at least one health care facility stored in the data repository. Because the graphical representation of the at least one health care facility is integrated within the enterprise health care information system, it allows a user access patient data and health care facility resource data, perform actions on the displayed patients and health care facility resources, and manage patient care and health care facility resources.

  • Patent number: 5666103
Abstract: In response to detecting activation of a safety indicator on the towing vehicle, a radio frequency control signal is transmitted from a transmitter means on the towing vehicle. Thereafter, the radio frequency control signal is received on a towed vehicle using receiver means powered by a power source located on the towed vehicle. In response to receiving the radio frequency control signal, a safety indicator on the towed vehicle is automatically connected to the power source on the towed vehicle to activate the safety indicator on the towed vehicle. The radio frequency control signal may be encoded in response to the detection of a particular one of a plurality of safety indicators on the towing vehicle. Upon receiving the encoded radio frequency control signal, a corresponding one of a plurality of safety indicators on the towed vehicle may then be automatically connected to the power source on the towed vehicle.

  • Patent number: 4961260
Abstract: A high pressure compressor seal assembled onto a compressor shaft, together with compressor bundle elements. A stationary bundle vane is engaged with slots within the seal to prevent rotation of an outer portion of the seal during operation of the compressor.
