An attachment assembly affixes the base to the appendage. A protective guard extends outward from the base and bends back toward the base to at least partially enclose an end of the appendage. The guard creates a buffer that encloses space between the guard and the end of the appendage to prevent the end of the appendage from contacting the guard when a force is applied to the guard.
