Abstract: An application program interface in a computer for allowing application programs executing in the computer to access a wireless RF input/output facility or port in the computer, which emulates a serial port in the computer by the steps of opening a handle to a virtual COM port from an application program executing in the computer; opening and configuring a serial port by the application program; starting a thread to receive characters to be communicated through the RF facility; and utilizing the virtual COM port to open a component interface to allow communications through wireless RF communications.

Abstract: Described is a system which includes a computing arrangement and an access point. The computing arrangement may include a first radio transceiver operating in accordance with a first communication protocol using a frequency band and a second radio transceiver operating in accordance with a second communication protocol using the frequency band. The access point operates in accordance with the first communication protocol and transmits a communication signal using the first communication protocol. The signal has a frame including a first time interval indicative of when communications using the first communication protocol via the frequency band are permitted. The first radio transceiver receives the signal and the computing arrangement determines if the frame includes a second time interval. The mobility device assistant automatically searches via a wireless media to locate and communicate with the external device. The external device responds with relevant information about the external device. The external device can also communicate with the mobility device assistant via a proxy communication device or manager. The proxy manager maintains a database of information about those external devices that are unable to communicate. The mobility device assistant is configurable to locate and/or filter for specific external devices. The mobility device assistant can request external device information based upon an inferred state of the user or mobile computing device.

Abstract: Architecture to reduce or mitigate interference and performance degradation between a wireless local area network (WLAN) and a wireless personal area network (WPAN) device. The architecture defines a paging system that employs a modified paging sequence. Particularly, one aspect includes a frequency selection component, a packet scheduling component and a paging component. The frequency selection component defines a frequency protocol (e.g., adaptive frequency hopping (AFH)), the packet scheduling component defines an alternating paging method (e.g., alternating wireless media access (AWMA)) and the paging component employs the defined frequency protocol and the alternating paging method to generate a modified paging scheme. Additionally, the paging system can employ any non-collaborative frequency hopping protocol, collaborative paging method or channel mask to generate the modified paging sequence.
