  • Patent number: 8864487
Abstract: A pottery holding device and method for securely holding a workpiece during rotation and working of the workpiece on a wheelhead of a pottery wheel. The pottery holding device includes a wheelhead member and at least three holding members. The wheelhead member configured for attachment to the wheelhead of a pottery wheel. The at least three holding members and wheelhead member configured to allow selective locking of the at least three holding members in positions about the periphery of a workpiece. The device adapted to securely hold circular, non-circular symmetric and irregular, asymmetric or organic shaped workpieces. The device further adapted to securely hold workpieces in positions and orientations such that the center of the workpieces is aligned with the axis of rotation of the device, and positions and orientations such that the center of the workpieces is spaced from the axis of rotation of the device.

  • Patent number: 7564007
Abstract: A kiln of the pottery or glass type and of insulating firebrick or ceramic fiber with an interior wall includes: a ceramic holder for holding a wound electrical heating element; a channel in the interior wall for receiving and supporting the ceramic holder. The ceramic holder is removably positionable within the slot with means for receipt and holding the wound electrical heating element when the ceramic holder is positioned within the channel in a first preferred embodiment, the ceramic holder has a supporting surface for receipt of the heating element and an inner, upper lip for holding the heating element on the ceramic holder. The interior wall has a horizontal retaining slot aligned with the ceramic holder supporting surface, the supporting surface has an outer end received within the retaining slot and an inwardly angled bore and a pin passing through the bore into the interior wall for holding the ceramic holder removably in place.

  • Patent number: 4238178
Abstract: Apparatus for molding clay into flat slabs for subsequent processing into pottery ware or sculpture employs a drive board for containing clay which is driven through a roller assembly. The clay is contained in a canvas to avoid adhesion of the clay to the roller, while the drive board includes a second canvas which assists driving the board through the roller assembly. An improved driving system utilizes an abrasive finish on the drive roller and a rubberized bottom on the drive board, while the upper roller functions as a guide roller for the slab. The thickness of the slab is adjustable by controlling the distance between the rollers.
