  • Patent number: 8555815
Abstract: A livestock feeder receiving one or more large bales therein includes a base, a bunk wall extending upwardly from the base to surround a lower bunk area, a hopper wall spaced above the bunk wall to surround an upper hopper area while allowing the large bale to fall through to the lower bunk area. The bottom end of the hopper wall is spaced upwardly and inwardly in relation to the top end of the bunk wall therebelow to allow access of the head of feeding livestock therebetween. The feeder construction permits bales to be readily centered within the bunk area by the hopper for even feeding access by animals about the perimeter. Also by allowing the bales to fall through the hopper, the bales can be fully recessed below the height of the hopper wall for protection from wind erosion.
