  • Patent number: 5947885
Abstract: A variety of sheet materials can be tessellation folded with an infinite variety of patterns in a one-step folding process by placing the sheet material against a pallet having flat rigid segments and flexible hinges, exerting forces against the pallet in accordance with information as to the pattern desired to initiate folding, and continuing folding to the degree of folding collapse wanted. A heat setable material can be heated prior to folding so the material will be set as folded. An uncured cementitious material can be folded, and held in a mold until the material is cured. Due to natural pantographic degradation, a continous belt can be folded in one area, with sheet material to be folded being placed against the belt before folding, and removed as the belt unfolds.

  • Patent number: 4548611
Abstract: A method and apparatus for dyeing or otherwise treating yarns wherein the yarn is made into a substrate having tranvsersely laid yarns, foamed dye is placed on the substrate, and the foamed substrate is impacted to cause penetration of the foam through the substrate. The apparatus may include a hammer-like impactor acting against an anvil for impacting the foamed substrate, and the impactor may be driven by mechanical arrangements, or by ultrasonic sound drive means. The apparatus may also include impacting rollers wherein the diameter of the roller is small, and the rate of rotation high, so the rate of increase in pressure on the substrate by the rollers is equal to impaction.

  • Patent number: 4047271
Abstract: A method for space dyeing yarn wherein a rapidly advancing yarn is intermittently deflected into and out of a nip of a pair of rotating dye applicator rollers, such that those portions of the yarn which pass through the nip are subjected to a rapidly applied and substantial compressive force in the nature of a hammer-like impact in the nip, to cause the dye carried by the rollers to deeply penetrate into the yarn. In the illustrated embodiment, the yarn is advanced past a plurality of such pairs of dye applicator rollers, and an external pattern control acts to deflect the yarn into and out of the various nips in accordance with a predetermined program.

  • Patent number: 3986375
Abstract: An apparatus for producing randomly or space dyed skeins of yarn and which comprises an open vat adapted to be filled with a liquid dye bath, a rack for supporting a plurality of skeins, and means for selectively lifting the rack such that the rack and skeins may be translated between a fully lowered position in the dye bath and a plurality of raised positions.
