The management network includes multiple sets of session management modules or servers (e.g., Intelligent Service Control Points), a services hub and a data warehouse. The network may also include a gateway for routing text messages. Each set of session management modules includes a plurality of modules, and each subscriber is assigned to one set of modules with one of the modules as a primary and another as a secondary or backup. Subscribers are grouped according to geographical area (e.g., by zip code, by area code), service area or other criteria, and all subscribers within a group are assigned to the same primary and secondary modules. Management of subscribers' communication sessions is load balanced by reassigning groups of subscribers to different sets of session management modules. Each module tracks account statuses (e.g., prepaid services balances) for its assigned subscribers.

If a subscriber does not have sufficient value in the subscriber's account to pay the recurring charge for the selected bundled service plan, the subscriber's account is automatically stepped down to a different plan that includes fewer or no bundled services and that may charge more per use of the services. If the subscriber subsequently adds sufficient funds to the account to pay for the originally selected service plan, the subscriber may be re-enrolled in that originally selected bundled service plan.

Abstract: A wireless device usable for prepaid wireless service is provided with the capability of requesting and receiving an identifier uniquely identifying an account associated with the wireless device. The identifier can be displayed by the wireless device. When payment to the account is desired, the identifier may be displayed and read at a point of sale terminal, which then accepts the payment and communicates the transaction to the wireless service provider. In such a manner, the account for the wireless device is properly credited by the payment amount.

Abstract: Subscribers of a wireless communication services network can check their account balances in a real-time interactive environment. A subscriber requests balance information for the subscriber's account using a mobile wireless device. The request may be made using a single-key interface on the subscriber's wireless device. In response to the request, a billing system queries a subscriber database and obtains the subscriber's account balance. The balance information is then returned to the subscriber as a page of information, such as a WAP page. The billing system may implement a feature that charges subscribers for checking their balances if certain criteria are met.
