  • Patent number: 8317019
Abstract: There is disclosed a method and a basket for use with a golf ball range picker having a support frame. The basket may include a pair of inwardly offset handles in the basket side walls for ease of lifting when a series of two or more like baskets are arranged in a closely spaced side by side configuration. A pair of front edges of front side wall sections are each tapered outwardly toward the front to minimize or at least greatly reduce the surface area formed by abutting vertical edges with a like basket, to help guide the golf balls being thrown by the range picker into the baskets, and not deflect them inadvertently away from entering the baskets by otherwise providing thick abutting vertical edges which could block the path of travel of the golf balls. A front flange is disposed substantially along the entire length of the front of the basket for resting securely on a front portion of the support frame, and a rear flange is adapted for resting securely on a back portion of the support frame.

  • Patent number: 8275754
Abstract: One particular implementation conforming to aspects of the present invention takes the form of a method for tracking the stability of a data set for multiple observers. More particularly, a tracker object may be used to both mark a particular state of the data and to query if the data remains unchanged. Code that accesses the data set to calculate a result may fetch a reference to a current tracker object associated with the data set. The code may compare the current tracker object received from the data set against the tracker object associated with the last cached result. In an alternate arrangement, a state may be associated with the data set to indicate some characteristics of the data set. The state value associated with the data set may further simplify the action required by a code accessing the data set to receive an accurate calculation.

  • Publication number: 20120237466
Abstract: An all natural topically applied broad spectrum photo-filtering composition for both styling of hair and protecting hair and scalp from ultraviolet radiation is comprised of natural oils, vitamins and amino acids having UV absorption properties which in combination with at least one inorganic particulate selected from the group consisting of titanium dioxide arid zinc oxide afford broad spectrum photo protection of both hair and scalp across the UV and IRA spectrum. Combining the above with bees wax, glycerin, gelatin and wafer, produces an emulsified gel suitable for styling hair while simultaneously protecting the hair and scalp from damaging UV and IR rays.

  • Publication number: 20120171634
Abstract: A method for detecting indications of dental caries in an image of a tooth. The method comprises fitting a model to the image to identify a part of the image representing an outside edge of the tooth. Image variations are analysed in an area of the image to detect said indications of dental caries, the area of the image representing a part of the tooth and being defined with reference to the fitted model. Data is then generated indicating the presence of dental caries based upon the analysed image variations.

  • Publication number: 20120145475
Abstract: The invention is a polarized seismic wave generator used within a cavity for propagating polarized acousto-elastic shockwaves into surrounding cavity strata. The invention comprises segments with orient-able acousto-elastic shockwave sources, the segment also having shockwave mitigation material. Each shockwave source is configured to generate acousto-elastic shockwaves into surrounding cavity strata, whereby the shockwave mitigation material decouples the generated wave fields. Each segment is constructed to fix the relative azimuthal orientation and vertical inclination of the acousto-elastic shockwave sources. The invention also comprises a frame with a major axis oriented in a vertical relationship with respect to the cavity, the frame holding each segment in a fixed position relative to other segments within the cavity.

  • Patent number: 8073526
Abstract: The present invention provides a method and device to record and visualize drawing and writing movements during functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) of brain activity. The system includes a touch-sensitive tablet, an elevated mounting platform, a stylus, and a controller box, as well as the necessary cabling and software. All equipment residing inside the magnet room is non-ferromagnetic and does not interfere with scanner operation and does not affect fMRI data quality. Individuals lying inside the scanner interact with device in a natural, intuitive way, similar to writing with pen and paper. Drawing motions captured by the tablet are displayed through a pair of fMRI-compatible goggles or by using a projector and screen. Other visual stimuli can be concurrently presented with the drawing motions for the purpose of assessing specific aspects of human behavior. The system allows for a plurality of experiments to be performed, all while brain activity is measured and recorded.

  • Publication number: 20110253677
Abstract: Apparatus for pre-heating tubular articles prior to welding and a method of using the apparatus are disclosed. The apparatus comprises a support for carrying tubular articles such that they can be rotated together about long axis of the articles. A heater has a heating head that can be placed adjacent a region to be welded. The articles can be rotated so the region to be welded passes the heating head and is thereby heated to enable it to be welded subsequently. The heater is typically an induction heater. The method of welding tubular articles comprises mounting the articles in the support of a pre-heating apparatus of a welding installation embodying the invention and rotating the articles such that a weld region passes adjacent to the heating head. Then a part of the weld region is welded after it has rotated past and has been heated by the heating head.
