Patent number: 6776121Abstract: The freezeless method for watering livestock, in one embodiment, is a method and means to provide water to livestock using a well, trough and a piston pump that is activated and powered by the animal. The animal uses its nose to push a plate on a lever apparatus that is attached to the pump. The pushing motion causes a rod to move the piston pump, which in turn raises water to the surface via piping into the trough where the animal drinks the water. The animal continues to pump the lever apparatus until the desired amount of water is consumed. By using a drain means and insulation means, the apparatus operates in freezing temperatures without the use of a power or heat source.Type: GrantFiled: August 29, 2002Date of Patent: August 17, 2004Inventor: James H. Anderson

Patent number: 6685575Abstract: A portable device capable of placing a golf ball on a tee repeatedly without the interaction of the user. The device consists of a base, a ball storage hopper, a ball scoop leading to an arm, a control system including a control panel, a rechargeable battery, an artificial turf mat with a rubber tee, a handle and wheels, and a housing to enclose the device. The user loads golf balls into the storage hopper where they roll down a track to the ball scoop. A sensor signals when a new ball is needed, and a motor lowers the arm which is connected to the ball scoop. When the arm is at its lowest position the ball rolls down the arm to the tee. When the ball is hit off the tee, a new ball is automatically placed on the tee.Type: GrantFiled: October 17, 2002Date of Patent: February 3, 2004Inventor: James H. Anderson

Publication number: 20020137014Abstract: The invention provides a system for virtually designing a medical device conformed for use with a specific patient. Using the system, a three-dimensional geometric model of a patient-specific body cavity or lumen is reconstructed from scanned volume images such as obtained x-rays, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), computer tomography (CT), ultrasound (US), angiography or other imaging modalities. Knowledge of the physical properties of the cavity/lumen is obtained by determining the relationship between image density and the stiffness or elasticity of tissues in the body cavity or lumen and is used to model interactions between a simulated device and a simulated body cavity or lumen.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 5, 2002Publication date: September 26, 2002Inventors: James H. Patent number: 6337627Abstract: The invention describes methods for locating a treatment device disposed within a living body by means of magnetic fields that are produced by Barkhausen jumps, principally from amorphous tag wires with high permeability that exhibit reentrant flux reversal. When wires of this type are attached to concealed treatment devices such as catheters, interrogation or scanning of the tag wire by a low frequency ac magnetic field affords an accurate means for locating the treatment devices using a sensor coil to detect the magnetic field signal from the wire locating tag. The strength of the field detected by the position of a sensor coil with respect to the locator tag is used to determine the location of the tag. A favorable signal to noise detection ration is obtained as the signal emitted by the wire is at a very high frequency compared to that of the frequency of the interrogation field.Type: GrantFiled: October 27, 2000Date of Patent: January 8, 2002Assignee: International Business Machines CorporationInventors: Robert J. Publication number: 20010002306Abstract: There is provided a carrier, for an electrostatographic developer, comprising particles of a hard magnetic ferrite material as the core, the core having a coating of a polymer resin, said resin in turn having a coating of an organic conductive material. The organic conductive material can be a charge control agent and can be present in very small amounts. The developer compositions have no need for preconditioning since they have stable charging characteristics. Further, they exhibit low levels of “dusting”.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 12, 1998Publication date: May 31, 2001Applicant: Dinesh Tyagi et alInventors: DINESH TYAGI, DONNA A DIPRIMA, JAMES H ANDERSON

Patent number: 5705307Abstract: A method of developing electrostatic images with a two component developer avoids the break-in period of developer by providing a fresh mixture of carrier and toner, which toner has a first particle size but replenishes the mixture in use with toner having a second particle size larger than the first particle size. This compensates for the tendency of electrostatic images to preferentially attract the larger particles in a toner mixture.Type: GrantFiled: May 30, 1996Date of Patent: January 6, 1998Assignee: Eastman Kodak CompanyInventors: Dinesh Tyagi, Dennis E. Demeyer, James H. Anderson

Patent number: 5516615Abstract: A method for converting .alpha.-phase poly(vinylidene fluoride) to .beta.-phase poly(vinylidene fluoride), for preparing electrostatographic carrier and, electrostatographic developer and carrier. In the method for preparing electrostatographic carrier, uncoated electrostatographic carrier particles are coated with .alpha.-phase poly(vinylidene fluoride) to provide .alpha.-phase poly(vinylidene fluoride) coated carrier particles. A measurable portion of the .alpha.-phase poly(vinylidene fluoride) is then converted to .beta.-phase poly(vinylidene fluoride) by subjecting the .alpha.-phase poly(vinylidene fluoride) to a series of viscoelastic collisions having a total energy of from about 5.times.10.sup.4 to about 5.times.10.sup.5 Joules/kilogram of poly(vinylidene fluoride).Type: GrantFiled: January 31, 1995Date of Patent: May 14, 1996Assignee: Eastman Kodak CompanyInventors: Dinesh Tyagi, James H. Patent number: 5332645Abstract: A method of manufacturing improved strontium or barium ferrite carrier particles for use in two-component electrographic developer compositions for the development of electrostatic charge patterns is provided in which the tendency toward early life dusting of the strontium or barium ferrites is reduced.Such strontium or barium ferrite carrier particles are obtained by (i) mixing unreacted particles of iron oxide and barium or strontium oxide or, alternatively, a salt of barium or strontium convertible to the corresponding oxide by heat upon subsequent firing in a mole ratio of iron oxide to the metal oxide or salt of exactly 5.95 to 6.0:1 with an organic binder and a polar solvent, preferably water, to form a slurry, (ii) spray drying the slurry to obtain green beads of substantially uniform particle size and substantially spherical shape, and (iii) firing the beads at a temperature of from 1150.degree. to 1175.degree. Patent number: 5190528Abstract: A transseptal left atrial cannulation system which provides drainage of left atrial blood without the need for thoracotomy. A guide wire and a long needle assembly are inserted into a catheter. A cannula rides over the exterior of this catheter. The guide wire may be advanced past the needle assembly and through a catheter through the distal end of the catheter to assist in directing the system to the right atrium. The cannulation system is inserted in a femoral vein located in the groin. Both the guide wire and needle assembly are long enough to allow a substantial length to extend out of the body at the groin for manipulation even when the distal ends of the guide wire and needle assembly are positioned in the heart. When the catheter distal end is positioned adjacent the septum in the right atrium, the guide wire is withdrawn from the catheter orifice and the needle assembly moves past the guide wire and through the catheter orifice to a position adjacent to the septum.Type: GrantFiled: October 19, 1990Date of Patent: March 2, 1993Assignee: Boston UniversityInventors: James D. Fonger, Kenneth R. Jonkman, James H. Anderson, Sally E. Mitchell

Patent number: 4889975Abstract: A phenomenon sometimes referred to as tracking can occur when the end of an electrical heater, made of two or more metal conductors and a conductive polymer web, comes into contact with water or other electrolytes which allow arcing to take place across the surface of the web. Tracking is stopped by holes in the web which prevent arcing from continuing up the length of the heat tape.Type: GrantFiled: March 16, 1988Date of Patent: December 26, 1989Assignee: The Fluorocarbon CompanyInventors: Richard W. Farkas, David A. Rock, James H. Anderson
