  • Patent number: 6112994
Abstract: A card reader connector (10) includes a housing (12) having a base (14) and a cover (40) securable together and defining a card receiving slot (60) extending therebetween. The rear wall (22) and side walls (30) of the base (14) coextend alongside and inwardly of the rear wall (50) and side walls (56) of the cover (40) upon assembly. The cover side walls (56) each include at least one flange (58) extending inwardly, and the base side walls (30) each include flange-receiving openings (32) and flange-receiving slots (34) associated with the flanges (58) and the cover (40) and the base (14) include cooperating locking sections operable after final stages of assembly. During assembly the side wall flanges (58) of the cover (40) are moved into respective flange-receiving slots (34) securing the cover (40) and base (14) from movement directly apart, and the locking sections securing the cover (40) and base (14) from any further relative sliding movement.

  • Patent number: 6095868
Abstract: A card reader connector (10) includes a base (12) having a plurality of contacts (70) therein and a cover (40) dimensioned to receive a card (80), the base (12) and cover (40) being securable together to effect reading of the card (80). Each base side wall (28) includes at least a pair of flanges (30), each defining a clamping surface (33). The cover (40) includes card support rail portions (62) and at least a pair of spaced apart connector clamps (64) adapted to engage a clamping surface (33) of a respective flange (30). Upon full assembly, the cover clamps (64) and the base flanges (30) bias the cover (40) and base (12) together and secure the cover (40) and base (12) from relative lateral movement and from movement directly apart for the contacts (70) of the base (12) to assuredly remain compressively engaged with corresponding contact pads of the card (80).

  • Patent number: 6039599
Abstract: A switch 120 for a card reader assembly includes first and second terminals 122, 140 disposed in a card-receiving cavity 90. The first terminal 122 includes a board mounting section 124, a body portion 126 and a contact section 132 spaced from the board mounting section. The second terminal includes a board mounting section 142 at one end, a body section 144 and a switch portion 150 at an opposed end. Switch portion 150 has a card engaging end 152 and a contact engaging end 156 spaced therefrom and a fulcrum engaging portion 154 therebetween. The housing defines a fulcrum adapted to support the fulcrum engaging portion. Upon inserting a card 170 into the card receiving cavity 90, the card engages the card engaging end 152 of the second terminal causing the switch portion of the second terminal to pivot from one position to another providing an electrical signal indicating that the card 170 is fully inserted into the cavity 90.

  • Patent number: 6024593
Abstract: An electrical connector (10) is provided for receiving an electronic module (60), the connector (10) having an insulative base (20) which is mountable to a printed circuit board and supports electrical contacts (26) which are also connected to the printed circuit board. A cover (30) is provided for receiving the electronic module (60) and is rotatably mounted to the base (20) and securably thereto by the cooperation of a locking disc (40) with locking projections (21) extending from sidewalls of the base (20).
