  • Patent number: 8590532
Abstract: A filtration mask has a collapsible air guide and two filter supports connected at a hinge. The filter supports are movable between a storage position and a deployment position in which the angle between the filter supports being less in the deployment position than in the storage position. In an aspect of this invention, the filter support each have a recess at the hinging edge, and an exhale valve communicating with the air guide is mounted in the recess. In another aspect the exhale valve is connected to the filter supports by a flexible membrane. In a third aspect the air guide is formed by hinged panels.

  • Patent number: 8370960
Abstract: A modular AFM/SPM which provides faster measurements, in part through the use of smaller probes, of smaller forces and movements, free of noise artifacts, that the old generations of these devices have increasingly been unable to provide. The modular AFM/SPM includes a chassis, the foundation on which the modules of the instrument are supported; a view module providing the optics for viewing the sample and the probe; a head module providing the components for the optical lever arrangement and for steering and focusing those components; a scanner module providing the XYZ translation stage that actuates the sample in those dimensions and the engage mechanism; a isolation module that encloses the chassis and provides acoustic and/or thermal isolation for the instrument and an electronics module which, together with the separate controller, provide the electronics for acquiring and processing images and controlling the other functions of the instrument.

  • Publication number: 20130025589
Abstract: A hood assembly for a protective suit has a hood (41) and a seal (10). The seal extends about the rim of the hood and comprises a sheet composed partly or entirely of resilient material. The sheet is provided with a pocket (14). The pocket (14) has an inner layer (16) for contacting a contoured surface and an outer layer (18), separated by a filler medium (22). The outer layer is curved about the filler medium when no stretching force (26) is applied to the sheet, and as the sheet is subjected to a stretching force a first component of the stretching force is transmitted along the outer layer. As the sheet is subjected to a stretching force the curvature of the outer layer is reduced, so that a pressing force (28) is transmitted from the outer layer, through the filler medium, onto the inner layer. The pressing force presses the inner layer against the contoured surface, so as to reduce fluid flow between the inner layer and the contoured surface.

  • Publication number: 20100325783
Abstract: A process for making an article comprising a thermoplastic component (4) and a rubber component (3) having an halogenated surface in which the thermoplastic component is welded directly to the halogenated surface of the rubber component by, for example, RF or impulse welding. The product comprises a rubber component having an halogenated surface and a thermoplastic component in which the halogenated surface of the rubber component and the thermoplastic component are fused together.

  • Publication number: 20070107267
Abstract: The application relates to a sole (20) for footwear (10) which has a toe part (70) being made of a substantially inflexible material, a ball part (80) being made of a flexible material, and an instep-heel part (90) being made of a substantially inflexible material. In the preferred embodiment of the invention, the substantially inflexible material is carbon fibre in a thermoplastic epoxy resin and the flexible material of an aramide fibre in a thermoplastic epoxy resin. The application also teaches a shoe made with this sole and a method for the manufacture of the shoe.

  • Publication number: 20060011086
Abstract: A projectile having a reactive material disposed therein is provided. The projectile includes a housing which defines a cavity, the cavity being open at one end of thereof. A reactive material is disposed within the cavity. A tip is coupled with the housing and substantially encloses the opening of the cavity. The housing, the reactive material and the tip are cooperatively positioned and configured so as to define a void space between a surface of the tip and a surface of the reactive material. Upon impact with a target, the tip of the projectile is designed to become displaced within the cavity until it contacts the reactive material and transfers kinetic energy thereto thereby causing ignition of the reactive material. The void space may be defined to provide a desired amount of time between initial impact of the projectile with a target and the subsequent ignition of the reactive material.

  • Publication number: 20050106009
Abstract: A gas turbine engine compressor has a number of shroud rings, at least a bleed one of which defines a number of bleed ports. A structural hub is downstream of the shroud rings and secured relative to the shroud rings. A structural hub case extends from an aft joint with the structural hub to a fore joint with a joined one of the shroud rings and has a number of valve ports. At least a portion of the structural case extends structurally between the fore and aft joints. A valve element is shiftable between first and second conditions for respectively blocking and not blocking communication through the valve ports.

  • Patent number: 6132134
Abstract: A power trowel handle has controls that permit electronically operating the functions of an engine on the power trowel from the handle. The engine includes a servo controlled carburetor which will permit injecting, upon initial closing, a circuit for starting a quantity of fuel for starting a two cycle engine, which normally has to be done manually, as well as permitting control of a throttle using a trigger switch on the handle. The power trowel further has an elongated pole braced with a slider to prevent twisting under torque and to permit better control of the power trowel from a remote handle. The handle grip is usable in either the elongated pole position, or directly on a shroud for the power trowel.

  • Patent number: 5673757
Abstract: A ground opening device intended for use with agricultural apparatus is disclosed. The device has a rotatable cutting element and a mounting means. The rotatable cutting element has a cutting edge which forms a narrow groove in the ground when the cutting element is rotated. The cutting element is arranged such that its cutting edge oscillates in two directions simultaneously: in a direction substantially transverse to the groove being formed in the ground and in a direction substantially vertical with respect to the ground surface.
