  • Patent number: 9991039
Abstract: A linear actuator (20, 20?, 20?) comprises a plunger receptacle (22); a coil (24); a magnetic plunger (26); a magnetic base (28); a return spring (30); and a lock spring (32, 32?). The coil (24) is wound about at least a portion of an exterior surface of the plunger receptacle (22). The magnetic plunger (26) is at least partially disposed within a cavity at least partially formed by an interior surface of the plunger receptacle (22) for linear motion along a plunger axis (34). The magnetic base (28) is radially disposed relative to the plunger (26). The return spring (30) is disposed to bias the plunger (26) to a plunger extended position. The lock spring (32, 32?) is configured and oriented to lock the plunger (26) in the plunger extended position when power is not applied to the coil (24) but to be attracted to the magnetic base (28) and thereby permit movement of the plunger (26) to a plunger retracted position when the power is applied to the coil (24).

  • Patent number: 9299471
Abstract: A highly resistive wire includes a non-metallic wire material having a resistance of at least ten kilo-ohms per meter. In one embodiment, the wire material can be fashioned from a carbon-loaded plastic material, having an inclusion of carbon particles in a quantity that yields a resistance of no less than 10 kilo-ohms per meter. In another embodiment, the wire can include a plurality of strands of wire material where each of the strands is surrounded by a thin layer of conductive or semi-conductive material. The highly resistive wire can be used as a single strand, or as a bundle of strands, as wiring in a structure prone to transient electrical or electromagnetic events, such as static discharge or lightning strikes, that might otherwise lead to damage of the structure.

  • Patent number: 9015495
Abstract: A mobile terminal for use with a cellular or mobile telecommunications network includes a normal execution environment and a secure execution environment The mobile terminal enables the software of the terminal in the secure execution environment to be updated. The terminal may be provided with minimal software initially in the secure execution environment, and is operable to subsequently update the software by over the air transmission of software. Also disclosed is a method for managing rights in respect of broadcast, multicast and/or unicast (downloaded) data. The method defines a service protection platform implemented on mobile terminals having both normal execution environment and secure execution environment. Service protection is provided by separating the operation of service protection application components into those that operate in the normal environment and those that are adapted to execute only in the secure execution environment.

  • Publication number: 20090217036
Abstract: In a digital rights management (DRM) scheme a mobile terminal (1) registered with mobile telecommunications network (3) obtains encrypted content data (26) from content provider (21) and a rights object (28) containing a license to use that data from rights issuer (23). The mobile terminal (1) is associated with mobile terminal (11), PC (25) and PDA (27) in a domain. Various arrangements are disclosed for enabling a second device to consume the content data (26) received by the device (1). The content data (26) is consumed on the second device in a controlled manner. The second device may or may not be a member of the domain (24). The first device may enable the second device to temporarily join the domain (24), if the second device is not a member of the domain (24), in order to allow the second device to consume the content. In another embodiment the first and second devices may already be a member of the same domain (24).

  • Publication number: 20090125987
Abstract: A method for distributing rights objects between a first device 1 and a second device 50 is disclosed, the rights objects being used to authorise use of a content file. The method includes, at the first device, selecting and requesting content from a distribution server 3; receiving a download descriptor file 9 for the requested content, the download descriptor file identifying at least one available format of the content and identifying from where the content may be retrieved, wherein different formats of the content are suitable for devices having different rendering profiles and different formats of the content are contained within different content files; receiving at least one rights object 13 associated with the content files, the at least one rights object providing authorisation rights for the content files; and embedding the at least one rights object within the download descriptor file. The download descriptor file is then distributed to the second device.

  • Publication number: 20060206299
Abstract: A computer software product is used to create applications for enabling a dialogue between a human and a computer. The software product provides a programming tool that insulates software developers from time-consuming, technically-challenging programming tasks by enabling the developer to specify generalized instructions to a Dialogue Flow Interpreter, which invokes functions to implement a speech application, automatically populating a library with dialogue objects that are available to other applications. The speech applications created through the DFI may be implemented as COM (component object model) objects, and so the applications can be easily integrated into a variety of different platforms. In addition, “translator” object classes are provided to handle specific types of data, such as currency, numeric data, dates, times, string variables, etc. These translator object classes have utility either as part of the DFI library or as a sub-library separate from dialogue implementation.
