  • Patent number: 4978185
Abstract: An overfilled polygon scanning system is implemented by first determining which portions of the polygon facet can be formed with a degree of flatness within specification. Typically, the flatness goes increasingly out of specification to the facet edges, causing stray light and subsequent reduction in contrast in a subsequent exposure at a photoreceptor image plane. Once the areas of the outside specification portions are determined, these areas which constitute the oversized portion of the polygon are coated with a non-reflective material. This coating eliminates light reflected from these areas and assures that the light is reflected only along the non-coated (within specification) portion of each facet.

  • Patent number: 4687317
Abstract: A light lens scanning system operable in a document scan mode to reproduce documents onto a photosensitive record medium is modified to operate in a document edit mode. Upon selection of an edit mode, a document is placed face-up on a platen surface by the operator. A laser generated light spot output is introduced into the optical system and is directed along an optical path which is opposite to the optical path of a projected document image. The light spot output is visible to the operator at the platen as a light cursor. This movement of the cursor is placed under control of the operator. The cursor is moved through x and y coordinates to delineate an area of the document to be selectively erased. Coordinate positions are entered into a microcontroller memory.

  • Patent number: 4396834
Abstract: The illumination of a document moving through an exposure zone is maximized by placing a pair of reflectors on each side of the exposure zone in close proximity to the object plane and in an optimum reflecting position in relation to the illumination source. In a first embodiment, utilized in a continuous velocity transport (CVT) system, the reflectors comprise an integral member consisting of a plurality of connected facets. In a second embodiment, wherein the document is moved across a fixed platen, the reflectors effectively consist of two elements including a physically separated extended portion which is formed within the cross section of the platen.

  • Patent number: 4359267
Abstract: A plurality of gradient index fibers are assembled into a lens array by first coating each fiber with a light absorbent medium to a desired thickness and then pressing the coated fibers into a final mold. The coating step permits greater inter-fiber distance to be effected for certain applications.
