Patent number: 6134905Abstract: Evaporative cooler apparatus includes two pumps, a primary pump which pumps water to an evaporative medium and a secondary pump for pumping water from the bottom of the cooler to drain the cooler. The secondary, or drain pump includes a timer so that it is only on to drain water from the bottom of the cooler for a predetermined time, and after a predetermined number of hours of operation of the primary pump. That is, there is a direct relationship between the operation of the cooler apparatus as evidenced by the primary pump, and the draining of the water at the bottom of the cooler by the secondary, or drain pump. The efficiency of the pumps is increased to allow them to pump with a very low water level without cavitation problems by virtue of an impeller design which includes vanes on the bottom of the impeller disk and vanes on top of an impeller disk.Type: GrantFiled: June 17, 1998Date of Patent: October 24, 2000Inventors: Harold O. Collins, James J. Hennessy, Gilbert Mancillas

Patent number: 5377502Abstract: Ripening retardation chamber apparatus includes a plenum chamber having a generally open side against which is disposed a pallet full of boxes containing produce. The boxes include openings to allow cooled and moistened air to flow therethrough. An evaporative cooling system is used to provide a flow of cool, moist air into the plenum chamber. The air flow is such as to cause the cooled, moistened air to flow from the plenum chamber through the cartons or boxes of produce. The flow of air causes the heat and ethylene gas produced by the ripening produce to be moved out of the boxes, thus retarding the ripening process. The presence of moisture in the air reduces weight loss of the produce and improves the outer appearance of the produce.Type: GrantFiled: December 29, 1993Date of Patent: January 3, 1995Inventors: Harold O. Collins, James J. Hennessy, Gilbert Mancillas

Patent number: 5130063Abstract: Water distribution apparatus for an evaporative medium in the evaporative cooler includes a single molded element which is disposed on the top of an evaporative medium. The water distribution apparatus contacts the four sides of the evaporative medium at the top of the evaporative medium and is sealed to both the top of the evaporative medium and to the top of the evaporative cooler housing in which the apparatus is disposed to prevent air loss around the apparatus and accordingly to insure that air flow is through the evaporative medium. A water distribution tube is disposed within a central water deflection element in the apparatus, and water from the tube falls onto the top of the evaporative medium.Type: GrantFiled: August 26, 1991Date of Patent: July 14, 1992Inventors: Harold O. Collins, James J. Hennessy

Patent number: 4648613Abstract: A newspaper insert cart including a braking assembly which allows the cart to be stopped and rotated for convenient unloading of various sections. The braking assembly structure is specially designed for reliability, durability and a positive braking action. It also results in an overall system which is much less likely to cause injury to the cart user than systems heretofore known in the prior art.Type: GrantFiled: July 17, 1985Date of Patent: March 10, 1987Assignee: Hennessy Products, Inc.Inventor: James J. Hennessy

Patent number: 4450039Abstract: A splicing head for an automatic zero-speed web splicing machine is disclosed in which the end of a new roll of web material can be prepared for splicing directly on resilient nip rollers which are used by the machine to perform the splicing operation. In particular, the splicing head includes a knife carriage through which the web material passes and which can be moved transversely to the web travel direction under control of a cam and lever arrangement to introduce a predetermined loop of slack into the web material. The action of the cam and lever mechanism also positions a serrated preparation blade mounted on cantilever arms in front of the nip rollers for squarely trimming the edge of the web material.Type: GrantFiled: August 23, 1982Date of Patent: May 22, 1984Assignee: Harris Graphics CorporationInventors: Orfeo J. Salvucci, John M. Hobby, James J. Hennessy, Ronald R. Young

Patent number: 4400914Abstract: Sliding door operating means comprises a wall-mounted rack, operating mechanism connected to said door and having a pinion meshing with the rack and means for manually rotating said pinion to move the door between open and closed positions, and an energy-absorbing coupling between the manually actuated means and the pinion for absorbing rotational energy resulting from the inertia of the manually actuated means when the door reaches the end of its travel either to the open or completely closed position.Type: GrantFiled: July 29, 1981Date of Patent: August 30, 1983Assignee: Hennessy Products, IncorporatedInventor: James J. Hennessy

Patent number: 4376542Abstract: A gasket structure for application to a hopper car door edge comprises an elongated flexible gasket of compressible material having a relatively thick body with a continuous tangentially projecting rib and a plurality of narrow elongated spring clips extending transversely of the gasket and each having a straight end portion underlying the gasket and riveted to the rib thereof, a straight intermediate portion angularly disposed with respect to the straight end portion, and an opposite end portion curved in the opposite direction with respect to the intermediate portion from the angulation of the straight end portion to form a nearly closed loop, the straight end portion being adapted to engage the inner surface of the hopper door web with the intermediate portion engaging the sloping peripheral rim of the hopper door and with the opposite end grippingly engaging the outer surface of the peripheral rim to secure the gasket against the door web.Type: GrantFiled: July 29, 1981Date of Patent: March 15, 1983Assignee: Hennessy Products, IncorporatedInventor: James J. Hennessy

Patent number: 4189869Abstract: Structure for closing and opening railway house car sliding doors comprises a rack member affixed to the door track, bracket structure mounted on the door and extending rearwardly therefrom and mounting a rack-engaging pinion on its lower portion, a handwheel on its upper portion at a level substantially above the door track, and a chain and sprocket drive connecting the handwheel and the pinion for selectively rotating the latter to move the door between opened and closed positions. The handwheel is provided with a pivoted handle movable from a flush inoperative position to a projecting operating position.Type: GrantFiled: July 26, 1978Date of Patent: February 26, 1980Assignee: Hennessy Products, IncorporatedInventor: James J.
