  • Patent number: 4362428
Abstract: An expansion joint seal for closing a gap between spaced-apart structural members has an elongated body including longitudinal side edges, an upper corrugated treadway surface, a lower undersurface, and an internal web structure including a plurality of laterally spaced vertically disposed webs each having an upper pair of cross-bars extending upwardly and outwardly therefrom and connected to the upper treadway and a lower pair of cross-bars extending downwardly and outwardly therefrom. An additional lower cross-bar extends from each side edge downwardly and inwardly to a pair of curved surfaces, and a vertically disposed web extends between the juncture of the curved surfaces and the centermost cross-bars. An upper cross-bar extends upwardly and inwardly from each side edge to the upper treadway surface.

  • Patent number: 4362429
Abstract: An improved retainer for an expansion joint system and a sealing cap for the anchor bolt channel thereof. The retainer channel and the cap have complementary mating profiles in the form of ledges with inclined edges and inwardly offset grooves having sloped bottom surfaces on the retainer channel walls, the cap having laterally projecting upper edge portions defining ledge receiving grooves and sloped bottom edge surfaces whereby entry of the cap into the retainer channel is facilitated by coaction between the sloped bottom surfaces of the cap and the inclined edges of the retainer ledges. The retainer ledges mate with the cap grooves to lock the cap in the retainer. The sloped bottom surfaces of the cap are supported by the sloped bottom surfaces of the retainer grooves and the laterally projecting upper edge portions of the cap are supported by the upper surfaces of the retainer ledges, the surfaces being in sealing engagement.

  • Patent number: 4351622
Abstract: A seal having an elongated body including a mounting portion extending along its longitudinal edges for securement to a pair of spaced-apart structural members defining a gap therebetween in an expansion joint assembly. The seal has an intermediate expansion portion formed integral with the mounting portion and having an upper treadway surface formed with at least three integrally connected corrugated members each having a central, substantially planar surface and a pair of inclined legs extending downwardly and outwardly to form a substantial V-shaped groove at the joinder of adjacent legs, the outermost legs being integrally connected to the mounting portions. A lower expansible section is formed with at least two laterally spaced protuberances and an integral connecting section joining the protuberances.

  • Patent number: 3960462
Abstract: A resilient sealing member for use in an expansion joint comprising a tubular body having an internal truss structure which includes a pair of intersecting crossbars extending between the sidewalls and bottom wall of the tubular body. The sealing member, being of the low pressure type, further includes a vertically disposed compression bar extending between the midportion of the top wall of the member and the intersection of the crossbars to exert a downward pressure on the crossbars during compression of the member to thus reduce some of the sidewall pressures in a manner resulting in a substantially level pressure profile across the vertical dimension of the sidewalls.
