Patent number: 7042577Abstract: We disclose several instrument architectures for the measurement of arbitrary phase retardation on advanced lithography photomasks. These architectures combine traditional interferometric techniques with high-magnification UV microscopy. Features are interrogated using a multitude of phase probes, formed by a imaging a number of variable apertures back-illuminated by phase-coherent beams, onto the surface of the photomask with a given demagnification. The size, spacing, and orientation of the phase probes may be adjusted to suit photomask feature geometries. Means are provided to vary the relative optical phase between the phase probes. These phase probes both reflect from and transmit through the photomask; the stationary, non-localized interference fringes, formed in the regions of phase probe electric field overlap, contain information on the optical path difference between the two probes.Type: GrantFiled: July 15, 2003Date of Patent: May 9, 2006Assignee: ACTINIXInventors: James Jeffery Jacob, Andrew John Merriam

Patent number: 6895149Abstract: This invention greatly improves the quality of images obtained using optical systems illuminated by coherent light. It does so by removing the undesirable psuedo-random variations in the final image due to interference speckle and inhomogeneities in the spatial intensity distribution of the light source. A bundle of light-guiding fibers is interposed between the illumination source and the imaging system. Non-uniform propagation within the fiber bundle creates a psuedo-random phase variation across the illumination beam, which gives rise to a dynamic interference speckle pattern superimposed upon the desired image acquired by the optical system. Rotating the fiber bundle around the axis of propagation, whilst simultaneously integrating the output of the photosensitive detector over a period of time, substantially removes variations due to source inhomogeneities and coherent interference.Type: GrantFiled: May 13, 2003Date of Patent: May 17, 2005Inventors: James Jeffery Jacob, Timothy Litvin, Andrew John Merriam

Patent number: 6614339Abstract: An exhaust control device for use with a circuit interrupter includes a casing having a first expansion chamber and a second expansion chamber that are operationally disposed upstream of a heat sink and a damper, with the second expansion chamber being in fluid communication with the first expansion chamber and being in register with an inlet of the casing. The first expansion chamber extends between the inlet and the heat sink. The heat sink is a porous member that is annular in cross-section and includes a central cavity formed therein, the second expansion chamber being disposed in the central cavity. The first and second expansion chambers are configured to separate a blast of gases from the circuit interrupter into first and second pressure waves that sequentially travel through the heat sink and the damper, which reduces the peak intensity of the blast, extends its duration, and reduces its ionization level.Type: GrantFiled: July 31, 2001Date of Patent: September 2, 2003Assignee: Eaton CorporationInventors: Robert Neville Parry, Richard Craig Alexander, James Jeffery Benke

Patent number: 6502249Abstract: A system for part measurement and verification is disclosed. The system comprises a set of design criteria specifying a part and a fixture with gage blocks for positioning the part, where each of the gage blocks represents a known position. At least one probe is operable to measure the scalar values of the part and the gage blocks. A handheld information processor or computer is coupled to the probe for receiving the measurements and is operable to transform the measurements and compare those measurements to the design criteria to in order to verify the part. A method for part measurement and verification is disclosed. The method comprises eight steps. Step one calls for specifying the part with a set of design criteria. Step two requires storing the design criteria in a handheld information processor. Step three provides placing the part in a fixture with gage blocks at known locations. In step four, the method provides for configuring the handheld information processor to receive part measurements.Type: GrantFiled: October 5, 2001Date of Patent: January 7, 2003Assignee: Vought Aircraft Industries, Inc.Inventors: Clifton Dale Cunningham, James McKinnon Fitch, James Jeffery Howard, James Paul Koesters, Michael Alan Leenhouts, Eric Dewayne Moore

Patent number: 6433290Abstract: An indicator apparatus for a circuit breaker includes an indication mechanism and a latch mechanism mounted on a base, the base being mounted within the circuit breaker. The indication mechanism includes an indicator movably mounted on the base and being translatable along a longitudinal axis between a retracted position and an extended position, with the indicator in the extended position providing an indication visible from the exterior of the circuit breaker of a tripped condition of the circuit breaker. The latch mechanism includes a latch that is pivotable between a blocking position and a release position, with the latch in the blocking position being engageable with a ledge on the indicator to retain the indicator in the retracted position. The indicator is biased to the extended position by a first biasing device, and the latch is biased to the blocking position by a second biasing device. The abstract shall not be used for interpreting the scope of the claims.Type: GrantFiled: January 11, 2001Date of Patent: August 13, 2002Assignee: Eaton CorporationInventors: Phillip Lloyd Ulerich, James Jeffery Benke, Thomas Lee Aber, Ronald Paul Silich

Patent number: 6388867Abstract: A seal apparatus having a seal member and a plurality of fasteners is mounted on an arc hood of a cassette in a switchgear cabinet and resists leakage of arc gases through a gap between the arc hood and a circuit breaker mounted in the switchgear cabinet. The seal member is flexibly received against the circuit breaker in a racked position and is preferably at least nominally deflected thereby to resist the flow of arc gases in a leakage direction through the gap. The seal member thus resists the arc gases from coming into contact with a plurality of line conductors at the rear of the circuit breaker until the arc gases have at least somewhat cooled, deionized, and/or slowed. The seal apparatus thereby resists arc gases from inducing arcing between adjacent line conductors, whereby the circuit breaker can be operated at substantially higher voltages.Type: GrantFiled: September 29, 2000Date of Patent: May 14, 2002Assignee: Eaton CorporationInventors: Paul Richard Rakus, William John Jones, James Jeffery Benke

Patent number: 6376788Abstract: An electromagnetic blow-open device for a pole of a circuit breaker where the pole has a stationary contact and a movable contact. The movable contact includes contact fingers mounted on a contact carrier. The contacts have an open position and a closed position. The pole further has an associated rotatable pole shaft. The electromagnetic blow-open device includes a collapsible linkage having a rigid position and a changeable position. The collapsible linkage is disposed between, and coupled to, the pole shaft and contact carrier. The collapsible linkage is maintains the stationary contact and the movable contact in the closed position while the collapsible linkage is in the rigid position and to allow the stationary contact and the movable contact to move to the open position when the collapsible linkage is in said changeable position. The electromagnetic blow-open device also includes an actuator arm which is coupled to the collapsible linkage and is responsive to an over-current condition in the pole.Type: GrantFiled: January 8, 2001Date of Patent: April 23, 2002Assignee: Eaton CorporationInventors: William John Jones, Perry Robert Gibson, James Jeffery Benke

Patent number: 5898391Abstract: A vehicle alarm system includes a receiver transmitter subsystem, a G.P.S. subsystem for locating a position and a control CPU. The CPU performs a log and locate function in which it logs a first position of the vehicle once during an armed state of an alarm system and then, in response to the passage of a certain time interval, locates the position again. If the position of the vehicle has changed during the alarm of the alarm system, the vehicle's position is transmitted via the receiver/transmitter subsystem to a security response center that can then receive tracking information and locate the vehicle.Type: GrantFiled: November 14, 1997Date of Patent: April 27, 1999Inventors: James Jefferies, D.
