  • Patent number: 11149760
Abstract: An improved pistonless cylinder, including both single acting and double acting configurations, based on an Aramid fiber reinforced elastomer tubular which is highly stiff in radial direction against radial expansion and elastic in axial extension, so as to form a completely sealed, extendable and retractable pressure chamber and to be able to perform as well as, or better than, most of the conventional hydraulic cylinders in terms of load bearing capacities, maximum stroke distances and service durability. This improved cylinder employs no piston, piston rod, sealing seals or oil based hydraulic fluid, and utilizes non-metal materials to construct the majority of the parts for its extendable and retractable pressure chamber; therefore, this new cylinder can achieve significant weight and fabrication cost reduction. In addition, this new pistonless cylinder uses ordinary liquids, e.g.

  • Patent number: 10508399
Abstract: A general purpose passive annular grout seal assembly is disclosed which is suitable both for offshore jacket installations with regular annular gap sizes and for offshore wind turbine structure installations with an extraordinarily large annular gap of any sizes. Grout self-sealing operation during grouting is conducted in two steps: 1) a gap reducing action enabled by a gravity differential pressure force induced tilting of a plurality of flip plates, and 2) a gravity differential pressure force induced sealing action for the remaining small gaps. This disclosed new type of grout seal can not only enhance grout seals' overall system reliability by eliminating all potential sources for harmful results known to the offshore industry, but also significantly reduce costs for fabrication, transportation, and installation of grout seals.

  • Patent number: 8701581
Abstract: A system and method protect a thruster assembly disposed with a pontoon of a semi-submersible drilling vessel during dry tow transport. A cover may be positioned over the thruster assembly and secured with the pontoon. A thruster cover support structure may be disposed with the pontoon. The thruster cover support structure may be a frame positioned around the pontoon for removable attachment with the thruster cover. The thruster cover support structure may be a bracket, ring or flange fixedly attached with the pontoon. The thruster cover may be removably disposed with the bracket, ring or flange, such as by bolting or welding. A spacer barge may be positioned below the pontoon between thruster assemblies for lifting the semi-submersible drilling vessel before placement of the spacer barge and semi-submersible vessel on the dry tow transporting vessel. The thruster assemblies may be elevated and in some embodiments positioned directly over the dry tow transporting vessel.
