  • Patent number: 7993495
Abstract: A method is provided for decontaminating a surface that is susceptible to contamination by a contaminant by applying to the surface a coating which produces a decontaminating agent for the contaminant in response to a signal, connecting the electroactive coating to a source of a signal, and when the surface is contaminated, applying the signal to the electroactive coating, thereby producing one or more decontaminating agents which neutralize or destroy the contaminant. Coatings for practicing the method and articles that have been protected by the novel coatings are also provided.

  • Publication number: 20030119891
Abstract: Processes and compositions are provided for regulating COX2 gene expression in a cell. The process includes selecting a polyamide composition comprising N-methyl pyrrole (Py) and N-methyl imidazole (Im) to provide specific binding to DNA at a COX2 gene target site in a cell. The polyamide is then combined with the cell containing the COX2 gene, wherein the polyamide binds to the COX2 gene promoter target site and regulates transcription of the COX2 gene.

  • Publication number: 20030109448
Abstract: A method for enhancing cellular uptake and redistributing gene regulating polyamides from the extranuclear areas in eukaryotic cells to the nucleus thereof. The method consists of administering to the eukaryotic cells a molecular trafficking compound. The administered molecular trafficking compound affects cellular pathways and mechanisms that accumulate polyamides in cytoplasmic vessicles and/or efflux polyamides from the intracellular regions of cell. The method also includes modifying polyamides to contain negatively-charged or acidic moieties wherein the moieties inhibit the accumulation of polyamides in cellular lysosomes. By affecting the cellular pathways and mechanisms, the polyamides are redistributed throughout the cell, whereby nuclear accumulation of the polyamides is enhanced.

  • Patent number: 6258941
Abstract: The selected sequence-directed hydrolysis of RNA under physiologically relevant conditions is described using conjugates comprising metal complexes covalently linked to oligodeoxynucleotides as hydrolysis agents. The oligodeoxynucleotide portions of the agents are selected to provide molecular recognition via the Watson Crick base pairing to the target RNA sequence to be hydrolyzed. A method is described for determining the RNA hydrolysis effectiveness of metals and ligands used to form the metal complexes useful in this invention.
