  • Patent number: 6594885
Abstract: A method of assembling a coil includes forming a ferrite core having a top end, a bottom end, an inner opening extending from the top end to the bottom end, a cylindrical outer surface, and a step portion formed near the bottom end, the step portion extending past the outer surface. A first high dielectric material is applied on the outer surface of the ferrite core, then a conductive wire is wound onto the high dielectric material, whereafter a second high dielectric material is applied over the conductive wire.

  • Patent number: 6459214
Abstract: Prior to a load being activated, a first capacitive network and the load are operationally in parallel with each other, and the first capacitive network and a first inductor are in series with each other. A second inductor is magnetically coupled to the first inductor to boost a voltage supplied to the load. When the load is activated, a second capacitive network, the load, and the first inductor are operationally in series with each other. In a further embodiment, the first inductor and a second inductor are not capacitively coupled together, rather the second inductor generates lagging current at a first node to cancel leading current generated by the first capacitive network. Heating of the load is accomplished by the use of a cathode heater winding in operational connection with at least one of the cathodes.

  • Patent number: 6417631
Abstract: A ballast, powered by a power source is used to control operation of a load such as a discharge lamp. The ballast includes a switching network configured to control a supply of power to the load, and a bridge converter network which is configured to receive an input signal from the power source and convert it into a form useable by the switching network. The bridge converter network is integrated into the switching network.

  • Publication number: 20020079999
Abstract: A coil assembly includes a cylindrical ferrite core having a top end, a bottom end, an inner opening extending from the top and to the bottom end, a cylindrical outer surface, and a stepped portion formed at the bottom end, where the stepped portion extends past the outer surface of the cylindrical core. A first high dielectric material is located over at least a substantial portion of the surface of the cylindrical core by use of a coating process. A length of conductive wire is wound around the first high dielectric material located over the outer surface of the cylindrical ferrite core. The winding of the wire around the core forms a coil having a first end and a second end. A second high dielectric material is then located over the coil, not including the first end and second ends. A coil holder is formed including a base portion having a base opening formed substantially at a centered area of the coiled holder.

  • Patent number: 6411524
Abstract: A printed wiring board assembly for a compact fluorescent lamp unit that has a lamp portion and a base portion includes a first generally planar wiring board containing a first group of electronic components electrically connected to the lamp portion and a second generally planar wiring board containing a second group of electronic components electrically connected to the base portion. The first board is attached generally perpendicular to the second board and is in electrical communication with the second board.
