Patent number: 10650035Abstract: Techniques described herein relate to systems and methods of data storage, and more particularly to providing layering of file system functionality on an object interface. In certain embodiments, file system functionality may be layered on cloud object interfaces to provide cloud-based storage while allowing for functionality expected from a legacy applications. For instance, POSIX interfaces and semantics may be layered on cloud-based storage, while providing access to data in a manner consistent with file-based access with data organization in name hierarchies. Various embodiments also may provide for memory mapping of data so that memory map changes are reflected in persistent storage while ensuring consistency between memory map changes and writes. For example, by transforming a ZFS file system disk-based storage into ZFS cloud-based storage, the ZFS file system gains the elastic nature of cloud storage.Type: GrantFiled: May 31, 2017Date of Patent: May 12, 2020Assignee: Oracle International CorporationInventors: Mark Maybee, James Kremer, Pascal Ledru, Kenneth Dunlop

Patent number: 10645886Abstract: The disclosure relates to a plant growth apparatus and related system to grow and maintain plants under controlled biotic conditions, for example to grow axenic (microbe-free) plants, gnotobiotic (defined microbiota) plants, and holoxenic (complex, or undefined microbiota) plants. This system allows aseptic bottom irrigation with water, soluble nutrients, chemicals, and/or microbiota. Plants can be inverted for dipping and/or vacuum infiltration. The system also allows for passive (gravity) drainage, thereby allowing for gas exchange and preventing root anoxia. A variety of plant growth substrates can be used within the plant growth apparatus as a plant growth medium. The plant growth apparatus, containing the growth substrate medium, can be completely flushed via the drainage port to remove potential toxic byproducts of the sterilization processes. The entire system is suitably constructed using autoclavable material.Type: GrantFiled: January 27, 2017Date of Patent: May 12, 2020Assignee: BOARD OF TRUSTEES OF MICHIGAN STATE UNIVERSITYInventors: James Kremer, James M. Patent number: 10338852Abstract: Systems and methods for list retrieval in a storage device are provided that significantly reduces the number of commands needed to retrieve data. A single command or request may be issued to receive data stored at a parent node, a child node, and/or a grandchild node. For example, a request may be issued that includes a node corresponding to a particular level, a depth level below that particular level to which to obtain data and/or filter criteria. With this information, the requested information may be obtained to the depth level while filtering out information not included in the request. When the request corresponds to a parent node and information about the children nodes is desired, for example, additional requests are not needed to obtain information from all of the parent node and the children nodes. Thus, the length of time needed to provide certain stored management information is reduced.Type: GrantFiled: May 7, 2018Date of Patent: July 2, 2019Assignee: Oracle International CorporationInventors: Archana Katarki, James Kremer
