Patent number: 11963727Abstract: Mitigating a user interface display function of a modular energy system includes receiving formatted video data at a video data converter circuit, providing differential video signaling data to the display from the video data converter circuit, providing a copy of the differential video signaling data to a processor, and determining that the differential video signaling data is changing over time. Mitigating erroneous outputs from an isolated interface includes receiving a state of a first switch of a first footswitch coupled to a first comparator and a reference voltage coupled to the first comparator, receiving the state of the first switch coupled to the first duplicate comparator and the reference voltage coupled to the first duplicate comparator, comparing the output of the first comparator with the output of the first duplicate comparator, and determining activation or deactivation of a surgical instrument coupled to the controller based on the comparison.Type: GrantFiled: March 30, 2021Date of Patent: April 23, 2024Assignee: Cilag GmbH InternationalInventors: Joshua P. Morgan, Andrew W. Carroll, Jeffrey L. Aldridge, Joshua M. Henderson, James M. Vachon, Eitan T. Wiener, Daniel C. Herman, Jonathan T. Samuel, Jeffrey A. Bullock

Patent number: 11950860Abstract: Several mitigation circuits are disclosed. An audio mitigation circuit includes an audio mitigation control module configured to read a unique tone identification embedded in a digital audio signal to identify a digital audio tone. A video mitigation circuit confirms video to be displayed by a user interface. Another audio mitigation circuit is configured to process super-audible tones in an audio signal to confirm an audio asset. The disclosure also describes various methods associated with the mitigation circuits.Type: GrantFiled: March 30, 2021Date of Patent: April 9, 2024Assignee: Cilag GmbH InternationalInventors: Joshua P. Patent number: 11918269Abstract: Aspects of the present disclosure are presented for systems and methods for identifying characteristics of a return pad in a monopolar electrosurgical system using contact quality monitoring (CQM) and near field communication (NFC) signals. In some aspects, resistance or impedance materials are sensed that may help identify what kind of return pad is being used, including what is the structure of the pad. In some aspects, NFC signals are used to identify characteristics of the return pad. In some aspects, the grounding or return pad may include two separate materials that form an interconnecting or interwoven mesh and both act as non-active electrodes when both contact the patient. A non-zero impedance may separate conductive lines connecting the two separate materials that may be analyzed to obtain a defining signature about that is linked to structural characteristics about the return pad.Type: GrantFiled: September 5, 2019Date of Patent: March 5, 2024Assignee: Cilag GmbH InternationalInventors: Joshua Henderson, Joshua P. Patent number: 6285757Abstract: A body-wearable interactive device with a retractable earbud and a microphone provides data, audio and voice communication with a wearable personal computing or other remote device. Full voice and display interface with a personal computer can be achieved with the use of a wireless link between the input/output device and computer. The device is adapted for use with a variety of ancillary communications devices to provide flexibility in field and mobile communications scenarios. Corresponding methods are also disclosed by which a wearer can effect communication through and with the interactive device.Type: GrantFiled: November 6, 1998Date of Patent: September 4, 2001Assignee: ViA, Inc.Inventors: David W. Carroll, Wendell L. Carroll, James L. Carroll, Steven V. Case, Matthew H. Rust

Patent number: 6121960Abstract: A screen peripheral system according to an embodiment of the invention includes a computing device for producing a main image and a touch-activated input device for generating and displaying a composite image visible to a user. The composite image simultaneously includes a representation of at least one key, for example a QWERTY keyboard, for activating an input function, and the main image provided by the computing device. The keyboard representation preferably is laid over the main image. According to one embodiment, the main image is an output image generated by an application being executed by the computing device. Other touch screen systems and methods are also disclosed.Type: GrantFiled: August 28, 1997Date of Patent: September 19, 2000Assignee: ViA, Inc.Inventors: David W. Carroll, James L. Carroll, Steven V. Case

Patent number: 5991086Abstract: An inflatable optical housing is adapted to provide a visual image and be used in connection with a separate computing device. The housing is sized by one or more bladders and at least one associated alignment member. Optical elements of the device provide an image of a display and/or an enhanced magnified image via lensing. The housing preferably is constructed of lightweight materials and is adapted for rapid inflation and deflation through a variety of mechanisms and with a variety of media. Embodiments of the invention are especially advantageous with wearable computing devices and methods.Type: GrantFiled: June 25, 1998Date of Patent: November 23, 1999Assignee: ViA, Inc.Inventors: David W. Carroll, James L. Carroll

Patent number: 5253405Abstract: An apparatus for removing a stuck lantern ring from the packing chamber of a valve assembly. The apparatus includes a guide collar which can be fixedly secured to the valve stem at a position above the packing chamber. The guide collar includes a plurality of equally spaced guide holes for guiding a drilling instrument used to form threaded openings in the lantern ring. After the holes are formed in the stuck lantern ring, thread connectors are inserted through the guide holes in the guide collar and are engaged with the threaded holes in the lantern ring. When the valve stem is raised, the removal tool applies a lifting force to the stuck lantern ring to lift the lantern ring out of the packing chamber.Type: GrantFiled: August 28, 1992Date of Patent: October 19, 1993Inventor: James L. Carroll

Patent number: 5107882Abstract: A valve assembly includes a self-contained, packing removal means for removing the valve packing. The valve assembly includes a valve stem connected at one end to a valve, a bonnet for mounting the valve stem on a valve body having a valve seat engageable with said valve on said valve stem, and means for raising and lowering said valve stem to selectively open and close said valve. The bonnet includes a packing chamber through which an intermediate portion of the valve stem extends. The packing removal means comprises a radially displaceable lifting element disposed within the valve stem and movable to an extended position where it engages the packing assembly from underneath upon operation of the valve stem to lift the valve packing from the packing chamber.Type: GrantFiled: July 26, 1991Date of Patent: April 28, 1992Assignee: John M.
