Patent number: 6598843Abstract: An extendable bracket assembly for supporting hardware components has a mounting base with a base plate. The base plate has an attachment side for mounting the base plate to a surface and has a support side opposite the attachment side. A base support element extends from the support side of the base plate. A first extension part has a first body with a proximal end adjacent the mounting base and a first extension support element that extends from an opposite distal end of the first body. The first extension part can be removed from and reattached to the base support element to adjust the bracket length as needed. The base support element is exposed when the first extension part is removed. The extendable bracket assembly can include a plurality of like extension parts to further increase the bracket length.Type: GrantFiled: March 20, 2002Date of Patent: July 29, 2003Assignee: Newell Window Furnishings, Inc.Inventors: Ronald T. Publication number: 20020179790Abstract: A break-away bracket for mounting and supporting window coverings has a mounting base and one or more break-away segments. The segments are interconnected end to end along frangible connections and extend from the mounting base. Each of the one or more break-away segments has a support element extending from one end. A most distal one of the support elements is exposed for supporting or mounting window coverings. Upon removal of the most distal one of the break-away segments or removal of more than one of the segments, a next adjacent one of the support elements becomes exposed for supporting or mounting window coverings.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 19, 2001Publication date: December 5, 2002Inventors: Glenn Emrick, James L. Patent number: 5642595Abstract: A finial support arrangement is provided for window coverings and the like, including a hollow ended support rod or tube, a support sleeve lodged within the rod, and a decorative finial supported in and by the sleeve. The finial includes a support post that is force or interference fitted into the sleeve. The sleeve, in turn, is force or interference fitted into the tube. The sleeve is made of a material that is softer than the support post and may be deformed during insertion of the post. The arrangement is particularly useful for supporting cast or wrought metal finials in rigid support tubes or rods, and alleviates the need for close tolerances on either the tube interior diameter or the support post outer diameter that would otherwise be needed to provide the desired interference fit.Type: GrantFiled: February 20, 1996Date of Patent: July 1, 1997Assignee: Newell Operating CompanyInventors: James L.
