    Abstract: A method includes acquiring a radiographic image and processing the acquired image to obtain a gradient image. The method then includes generating, from the gradient image, an initial set of pixels exhibiting speckle and removing one or more pixels from the initial set of pixels according to features indicative of image content, forming a mapping of pixels for replacement from the remaining set of pixels. A replacement pixel value is calculated for one or more pixels in the mapping and pixel values from the acquired radiographic image replaced according to the calculated replacement pixel value to form a corrected image. The corrected image can be displayed.
